It looks like LA-living is good for Russell Brand's health, as the comedian appeared tanned and relaxed as he arrived at Heathrow Airport yesterday, after reportedly partying with Ricky Hatton and Noel Gallagher at the Playboy bar in Las Vegas on Sunday. He may not be leading the pack as your favourite British export of 2008, but he was rewarded for his comedy routines with the award for Best Live Stand-Up act at the British Comedy Awards over the weekend. This accolade hasn't gone without complaint though, with Andrew Sachs telling The Daily Telegraph:
"I don't really understand why he won it after all those people complained. It's not my style of comedy. I can't appreciate his 'magic' if magic it is. It doesn't get through to me as comic genius as such it is. It baffles me as to why he is so popular. There's no style or structure to his work. He speaks off the top of his head. It's hit or miss – miss for me I'm afraid. It's sad to see that this is popular with the executives."
What do you think of Russell's win? Do you agree with Andrew?

I was surprised that he won, not because of the complaints, but because I think he's an overrated idiot.
1bigestivediscuit, i completely agree with you, and with Andrew Sachs. Hes such an idiot.
2Referring to his comment, so if people complained about an unrelated incident he shouldn't have won? People will like different styles of comedy, just because some don't get it, doesn't mean that others don't find it funny.
3I don't get it; some people find some things funny, and some others - everyone has a different taste of humour. With Russell, I think his stand-up is easy to relate to - for me anyway. He basically tells stories (structure enough), and makes them hilarious. He just says exactly what he's thinking. Sadly, some people tend to get their feelings hurt (i.e. Sachs).
And, if anything is overrated, I believe that would be Sachsgate.
4i agree with the people who says he is way overated, i get all his comedy, it's pretty simple, ud have to be a tad dim not to get his 'jokes' coz they're not exactly rocket science, i just dont think he is witty or funny enough to be classed as a proper comedian...anyone can be quirky, use 'big words' and say supposedly 'outrageous' things its all been done before he just has big hair, tight trousers and a character.
5i would say though he has said some funny things in the past but then again who hasn't...
6hills i agree with you - he says some funny things sometimes, but i still think hes an idiot lol.
7i love him - i know that he's got a sense of humor that a lot of folks don't really care for but he's funny in my opinion (granted that's only the case if we're not considering the mess of a job that he did with the VMAs here).
8"I don't really understand why he won it after all those people complained."
This makes no sense. First of all, they complained about his radio show not his stand-up. That's like saying I don't understand why he won best stand up after his neighbour complained his hedge was overgrown.
Secondly, "all those people" only complained because the Daily Mail made such a big deal out of it. Immediately following the broadcast, there were only two complaints. And Andrew Sachs himself gave the BBC permission to broadcast the calls.
