Ask Donatella a Question

Designers and brands are increasingly embracing technology.

Designers and brands are increasingly embracing technology. This week, London Fashion Week is being streamed online and now Donatella has decided to communicate with her Facebook fans directly by asking them to send in questions.

The head of Versace will then answer questions herself on Friday via video following her show in Milan. It's an intriguing move by the designer and it will be interesting to see what kind of questions she gets. I wonder if other designers will follow her lead? Will you be submitting a question to Donatella?

Fab Ad: More Georgia May Jagger for Versace

Back in November, Georgia May Jagger was announced as the new face of Versace.

Back in November, Georgia May Jagger was announced as the new face of Versace. The British blonde shot the campaign with Mario Testino showing off the bright coloured Spring collection. The first image was revealed late last month and now another has been unveiled. The daughter of Jerry Hall and Mick Jagger had a great end to 2009 as she scooped model of the year at the British Fashion Awards and her success looks set to continue. Donatella Versace commented on Georgia saying, "She's smart, a strong personality, beautiful, full of energy... and with that natural high star quality, I adore her! She's perfect for this collection – A real Versace girl." What do you think of this ad?

Fab Flash: Is Donatella Going to Leave Versace?

Just last week, Donatella Versace insisted that despite the financial problems the company would weather the storm arguing, You have to face the truth.

Just last week, Donatella Versace insisted that despite the financial problems the company would weather the storm arguing, You have to face the truth. For me, life is about chapters. Die and born again, die and born again. It’s the story of my life.”

This week it seems, however, that not everybody is convinced of Donatella's strength. A damning Newsweek article by Dana Thomas charts the "Tragic Decline of the House of Versace" which she claims has been falling apart since the death of Gianni, and that it's time for the company to move away from family control. "Many in the fashion industry believe it's time for the brand to continue without Versace family involvement — and some suggest that the family is starting to accept this idea too."

The Italian fashion house used to take over $1 billion in sales under the control of Gianni, but has since fallen to less than half of this. Some cite the remaining families resistance to adapt to new times and new economies, also the allowance of luxurious expenses. "There was zero expense control in the company, and the lifestyle was absolutely, positively insane," says the Versace source.

All of these problems are building up and you can't help but wonder if Donatella will be forced to leave. Do you think that she should pass on the control to someone outside of the family?

The stars were out in New York last night at the Whitney Museum Gala Studio Party in Manhattan, where glam was the order of the night for the guests. Alexa Chung looked beautiful in pale blue, on the day the second series of It's On With Alexa Chung started on MTV in the US, while Mischa Barton went for gown in a darker shade. Shimmering nudes and metallics were also prevalent as Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen played her skin coloured dress up with a very smoky eye, and buddies Donatella Versace and Lindsay Lohan also wore pale shades. Go behind the seams with Fab UK! Jennifer Hudson looked stunning in her pale pink dress, while Gerard Butler looked suave as always in his black suit. Yum!

Behind the Seams: Versace Heads to Beijing

Beijing has really been in the spotlight this year.

Beijing has really been in the spotlight this year. Firstly for the Olympics, and now Donatella has taken the Versace empire over there for the first ever fashion show for the brand in China. The charity show took place near Beijing's central Tiananmen Square and raised over $100,000 for survivors of the earthquake in China's Sichuan province earlier this year.

The show only used Chinese models on a circular catwalk and presented pieces from Versace's Spring line which debuted in Milan back in September. Donatella explained to Reuters, "What appeals to me is the energy in China, especially in this city Beijing. There are a lot of young people, creative people, a lot of art – it's very inspiring."

She also warned that this might not be the last China sees of the fashion empire. "If the economic crisis permits, yes I'll come every year. I think the Chinese people love fashion – that's what I can feel." See below for images from the show.

Versace Create Ultimate Luxury Fragrance

Donatella Versace is never one to skimp on excess.

Donatella Versace is never one to skimp on excess. Known for famously stating "more is more," the designer has just created what appears to be one of the world's most luxury perfumes. Despite the threat of a worldwide recession Donatalla's new fragrance will retail at $2,100.

The eau de parfum comes in a gleaming, hand-stitched white leather train case. It's been named simply Gianni Versace Couture, in tribute to Donatella's brother. The house of Versace has been working with it's beauty licensee and distributor, Euroitalia of Milan, for the past three years. Other fragrances in the stable include Versace, Versace Pour Homme, Versace Bright Crystal and Versace Man Eau Fraiche.

“Versace has reestablished itself as a modern luxury brand,” Donatella told WWD. “The Gianni Versace Couture fragrance project will reestablish Versace at the top of the beauty luxury sector.”
