Well here's something I didn't see coming — while the industry is buzzing with rumors about who may take Simon Cowell's place on American Idol, Ellen DeGeneres has bowed out of judging duties after only one season. She released the following statement:

"I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on Idol and I am very grateful for the year I had, I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be."
Reports today also claim that Kara DioGuardi has been fired, and the show will go back to a three-judge format with Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. With her five-year contract, I didn't expect to see Ellen drop out. Are you surprised to hear this news?

It's probably because she was terrible! The show is done as far as I'm concerned.
1Well, I won't watch the show if this is true. She was the only reason I watched this year. And I think it was a 2 year contract from what I read elsewhere.
2I think they fired her.Nigel says he wants to revamp the show.Kara's contract isn't even signed yet.I bet they are getting all new judges,They really only need 1.I don't think they need 4 opinions. It's the fans voting so why do they need so many.
3Where is the "No--she can do better" option?
4I really enjoy her show. But she is so terrible on American Idol. I don't think she has any knowledge about music at all. Her judging was all about the look, the clothes or the presentation. American Idol rating was down last year, I guess both Ellen and American Idol wanted to operate 2 favorite shows and brought more audiences. But Ellen was not the right choice, a lot of people didn't like the idea of her as a judge. After one season, I think she feels that too. It's a right decision for both parties.
5I have never watched it, but judging from what I know of Ellen, I thought she would have stuck it out longer - kind of dedicated herself to it. She seemed like that kind of person to me!
