Seth Rogen and James Franco are currently on location filming The Interview, but when they weren't in front of the cameras for the movie, things took a hilarious turn. The duo spent their downtime re-creating Kanye West's confusing video for "Bound 2," complete with "sexy" shots of Seth as Kim Kardashian on a motorcycle and James playing Kanye's part. The resulting video, which was originally posted on Facebook, is amazing — watch above and tell us what you think in the comments!
Award season may not have officially started just yet, but on Saturday night dozens of A-listers gathered in LA to attend a glamorous, star-studded event at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Kate Hudson, Salma Hayek, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Drew Barrymore dropped by LACMA's annual gala, which celebrates art and film. Naturally, since the party has to do with art, actor-turned-director-turned-artist James Franco made an appearance, and he mingled with Kate and Catherine Keener inside the bash. Meanwhile, Leonardo stayed close to his Wolf of Wall Street director Martin Scorsese but did break away to chat with Sacha Baron Cohen, Isla Fisher, and Tom Hanks, whom he may be competing against in the best actor category this award season.
On Friday, Leo also dropped by LACMA to stand in for Martin at a screening of Rebel Without a Cause, which was restored by Martin's Film Foundation. Martin was apparently still in NYC, working on The Wolf of Wall Street, which hits theaters this month, but he made it out for the museum's party this weekend.
The 70th annual Venice Film Festival is in full effect! It's a big milestone for the event, and we've already taken a look back at all the glamour over the years. Scarlett Johansson is the latest familiar face to show up at the event; she attended a photocall and the premiere of Under the Skin. Scarlett spoke briefly at the festival about her desire to get involved in politics, and also sported an engagement ring, revealing that she and Romain Dauriac got engaged over a month ago.
Scarlett's arrival comes behind a slew of other celebrities. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney cruised into Venice to promote their upcoming film, Gravity, and quickly became the golden couple of the event. Also abroad were stars like Tom Welling, James Franco, and Freida Pinto have also popped up, as well as Tom Hardy, who snapped pictures with fans before the premiere of Locke. Beyoncé Knowles donned a black leather leotard to rock the stage at yesterday's Chime For Change benefit concert, The Sound of Change Live, at Twickenham Stadium in London. She was also joined by her husband, Jay-Z, during her live performance at the show, which included her new song, "Grown Woman." Before taking the stage, Beyoncé posed backstage for pictures with Salma Hayek, who cofounded the charity, as well as Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini. She's headlining the concert, which promotes education, health, and justice for girls and women worldwide, and she was joined by many other famous faces to support the cause. Jennifer Lopez heated things up with her hit "Live It Up" and also linked up with Mary J. Blige for a special performance of The Beatles' song "Come Together." Blake Lively, who left her London hotel with husband Ryan Reynolds earlier today, Madonna, James Franco, and Jessica Chastain are a few of the other stars who have already taken their turn at the mic, while Florence Welch and John Legend have also taken the stage. Plenty of other A-listers have descended upon London for the charitable event — click through to see all the stars at The Sound of Change Live!
James Franco hit the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival last night with his ex-girlfriend and current costar Ahna O'Reilly to premiere their new project, As I Lay Dying. The two were joined by costar Tim Blake Nelson as well as Rosario Dawson, who doesn't star in the film but does share a connection with James as they have both worked with Harmony Korine. (James starred in Harmony's most recent film, Spring Breakers, while Rosario made her film debut in 1995's Kids, which Harmony cowrote.) The premiere was a big deal for James, who also directed the movie. We caught up with Ahna earlier this week in Cannes, where she talked about how excited she was that James asked her to take on the female lead after the two had broken up. She said, "I knew James could get any number of actresses to play that role," adding, "I think he did a tremendous job and I'm so proud of it and proud of him."
Ahna also premiered her new project, Fruitvale Station, at Cannes earlier this week — be sure to check out Ahna, James, and all the other celebrities at the Cannes Film Festival!
Jessica Chastain arrived in Cannes over the weekend and she has already made a splash on the party circuit. She wore Shamballa earrings as she attended a Chanel and Vanity Fair dinner last night, alongside stars James Franco, Milla Jovovich, and Paz Vega. James stopped by the dinner after hosting a party in honor of his ex-girlfriend Ahna O'Reilly on a yacht earlier in the day. Ahna costars alongside James in his directorial debut, As I Lay Dying, which is premiering tonight at the festival.
As for Jessica, she is in the South of France to promote the 50th anniversary of Cleopatra. She will host a special screening of the newly restored project tomorrow and will also wear the famous emerald and diamond necklace Richard Burton gave to Elizabeth Taylor during the production of the film. Jessica stopped over in Cannes after wrapping up filming for her latest project, Miss Julie, in Ireland. Jessica posted photos of her visit to Ireland on her Facebook page, noting that it was "tough to say goodbye" to the Emerald Isle.
James Franco toasted Ahna O'Reilly at a dinner party held on a yacht last night in Cannes. The event, thrown by James and The Art of Elysium, honored the actress's impressive debut at the film festival. Ahna is starring in not one but two movies being presented at the cinematic celebration. She acts alongside James in his latest passion project, As I Lay Dying, and is also in town for the premiere of Fruitvale Station, which was one of the most talked-about films at Sundance earlier this year. That project saw Ahna reunite with her The Help costar, Octavia Spencer, who stopped by the soiree last night. Guests mingled on the deck — where James and Ahna were the center of attention — over Champagne and dinner as the sun set on the South of France.
James and Ahna dated for several years before parting ways in 2011, then recently reunited professionally for their latest film. Last night, they shared a hug as James arrived before catching up with the creative crowd in attendance. It was a relaxed evening for the pair, who are preparing to unveil As I Lay Dying tonight at its Cannes premiere. The movie is an adaptation of William Faulkner's most acclaimed novel and marks James's feature-length directorial debut. It's one of 17 movies from around the world in competition at the festival, which continues throughout the week.
Based on William Faulkner's novel of the same name, As I Lay Dying features James Franco as both director and star of the film — thick Southern accent and all. Set in Mississippi during the Depression, the story follows a family that hopes to honor the wishes of the deceased matriarch, only to face a series of dark complications. The film also stars Tim Blake Nelson, Logan Marshall-Green, and Danny McBride in an unusually dramatic role (it's quite the contrast to the other movie that McBride and Franco are co-starring in this Summer, This Is the End).
Franco also cowrote the script with Matt Rager, and the film adaptation looks to be as dark and as complicated as the book. If the preview is any indication, then As I Lay Dying isn't for the faint of heart. Even in the short trailer, we see death, violence, murder, and rape. The movie premieres at this year's Cannes Film Festival, but you can catch a glimpse now with the trailer below.
This week's casting news is fun, with Game of Thrones star Richard Madden (better known as Robb Stark) signing on for Disney's live-action Cinderella, Jessica Alba boarding an indie romantic comedy, and Andrew Garfield signing on for a Martin Scorsese film. James Franco and Zac Posen-clad Winona Ryder paired up for a screening of The Iceman in NYC last night. The costars greeted each other with a kiss when posing with their leading man Michael Shannon on the red carpet. Their thriller The Iceman is out in limited release this Friday, May 3, and is a based-on-a-true-story tale of a hitman leading a double life.
In addition to this film's upcoming release, James has a lot on his plate. He is headed to the Cannes Film Festival in a couple of weeks to screen his directorial project As I Lay Dying and will also be in London in May making Good People with Kate Hudson. Additionally, James will direct and star in Garden of Last Days, a big-screen adaptation of a novel by author Andre Dubus III.
