I love it when one of my favorite actors teams up with one of my favorite directors. Kate Winslet will star in the drama Labor Day, the film adaption of Joyce Maynard's novel. Jason Reitman is on board to direct the movie, which will follow Winslet's character, a single mother of a young son who takes in a stranger, and then falls for him over Labor Day weekend. Josh Brolin is set to play the stranger, who is an escaped convict hiding out with Winslet's character. I've missed Winslet on the big screen dearly — though she recently starred in HBO's miniseries Mildred Pierce, she hasn't been in a film since 2008's Revolutionary Road.

Ryan Gosling brought a special lady, his mum, Donna, as his date to the second annual Governors Awards in LA on Saturday night. The birthday boy celebrated his 30th at Disneyland on Friday, and while he's had plenty of memorable onstage moments in the past, the evening was all about the honourees like Francis Ford Coppola and Eli Wallach. Sofia Coppola came out to support her dad alongside Natalie Portman in a gorgeous purple Lanvin gown, a Marchesa-wearing Hilary Swank, and Elle Fanning in Valentino. The ladies were joined by guests Stephen Dorff, who recently showed off his shirtless physique, Justin Long, and Josh Brolin, who stuck by his red-hot wife, Diane Lane.

The Hollywood Awards were a star studded affair last night, with lots of celebs walking the red carpet and being honoured at the ceremony. Carey Mulligan is back in the US after her time at the London Film Festival and took time out from filming Drive to join Andrew Garfield on stage, looking gorgeous in a red dress. Andrew, Rashida Jones and their The Social Network costars won best ensemble award, while Leighton Meester wore a pale blue Elie Saab dress to pick up the spotlight award.

Mila Kunis has been promoting Black Swan at the LFF with costar Vincent Cassel, but is back in LA now and looked hot at last night's awards in her LBD. Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger presented Sylvester Stallone's career achievement award, and had fun in the press room afterwards. James Franco enjoyed a casual night out earlier this week with Danny Boyle, but last night he was suited up for the ceremony, while Justin Timberlake left early to support Jessica Biel at the Glamour Reel Moments event.

AnnaLynne McCord, Katie Holmes and Jennifer Garner posed pretty at Variety's Power Of Women Luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel in LA yesterday. Katie's back in the US following her trip to Prague with Tom Cruise. Jennifer was free to fly to the West Coast now filming on Arthur in NYC has wrapped up. Both actresses raised awareness of their philanthropic missions — Katie was there for her arts education organization Dizzy Feet Foundation, and Jen attnded with a representative of Save the Children, a charity close to her heart. AnnaLynne went for a smart ensemble, while her boyfriend Kellan Lutz was across town flexing his muscles. Amy Adams, Eva Mendes and Anne Hathaway were also there.

The stars of Wall Street: Money Never Sleep gathered in NYC last night for their big premiere at the Ziegfeld Theater. Real-life loves Carey Mulligan and Shia LaBeouf walked the red carpet separately, but they caused a stir and screams from fans when they joined Josh Brolin, Susan Sarandon, and Michael Douglas for a group photo. Michael, who is in the middle of a battle against cancer, bravely turned out with wife Catherina Zeta-Jones to support his latest movie with director Oliver Stone. Shia lingered at the press line well after the screening began, seeming happy to shoulder the promotional duties for both himself and Michael. PopUS had a minute to speak with Shia about his adventures in investing his own money, and he also spoke about working with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on Transformers 3. He said, "She's great! This is going to be the best Transformers yet."

The gang moved on next to the afterparty at Cipriani on 42nd Street, where Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen broke from their fashion duties and preparations for their Paris show to toast Carey. Shia had previously started the day by ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange with Carey, then he went solo to keep the interviews coming at The Late Show. His chat with David Letterman airs on Friday, the same day their film hits US cinemans.

Carey's been busy doing double promotional duty, after surprising fans last week at screenings of her other new movie Never Let Me Go. Shia, meanwhile, is in the Big Apple during another break from shooting Transformers 3. Carey and Shia's press responsibilities give the real-life couple a chance to spend time together. They spoke recently about the fun of working together, but we shouldn't get our hopes up about seeing PDA on the red carpet at last night's premiere.
