The Hunger Games Locks In Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth For Peeta and Gale

After a couple of weeks of rumors and speculation, Lionsgate has officially chosen its male leads for The Hunger Games. Josh Hutcherson beat a handful of other strapping young lads to play Peeta, a baker's son who's chosen to participate in The Hunger Games along with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence). Liam Hemsworth has nabbed the smaller role of Gale, Katniss's BFF that she leaves behind when she's forced to participate in the games.

I can definitely see Hutcherson as self-deprecating but charming Peeta (even though the character technically has blond hair), while Hemsworth should do fine as quiet, broody Gale. I know fans of the books have strong feelings about who they've been envisioning in the roles, so can you see these gentlemen alongside Jennifer Lawrence?

ok. peeta is said in the books to have blonde hair. uhhh josh doesnt. like really? how hard is it to find a blonde actor that is good? i mean i love josh but i dont know if he is the right choice for peeta. i def didnt see him as peeta.

Jennifer Lawrence has blonde hair and I have a feeling they WON't die it. I

I guess people see the second guy beside Jen more because he's also Blonde, and Peeta's a blondie too. But we never know, Josh has pulled off great roles in the past and this might just add to his Resume. So Great Job! I have doubts but Josh's good as Peeta.

Josh will be a great Peeta---he has the strong, stocky build just as Peeta is described in the books! He wasn't my first choice (that'd be David Kross) but I can deal. I'm glad it isn't Hunter, I never understood what people saw in him. Liam as Gale though? Oh hell to the no. I guess I just need to have faith that casting saw something great in him. Gale needs to be dark and edgy...two words that don't really describe the guy from "The Last Song".

LOVE!!! I maybe would have reversed the roles but I don't think Liam could have pulled off Peeta ... so I'm really happy with the casting as a whole! Makes me so excited to stalk the internet for leaked production photos! :)

I don't like the guy playing Gale =( BOOOO... i mean, he was good in the Miley movie, but I don't know he will be believable as Gale *keeping my fingers crossed*

Josh is a fantastic actor. I loved him in Kids, but I definitely did not picture him as Peeta. Especially since he's the same size at Katniss. Katniss has to look small and vulnerable and weak (even though she's not) next to Peeta. But Josh looks smaller - I know with movie magic anything can be done, but it's just not how I pictured it. They should have went with unknown's for all three. Liam, lookswise, could pull off Gale, especially since his role in book 1 is so small, but when you get into the other books of the series his acting chops/role will become much more challenging and I don't know if he could pull it off.
