The Hangover boys — Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Zach Galifianakis, and Ed Helms, to be exact — gathered together in LA this week to get to work filming The Hangover Part III. So what can we learn from this first batch of pics from the next installment in the franchise? Well, Alan (Galifianakis) is sticking by his tried-and-true wardrobe of yellow t-shirts, and Stu (Helms) seems to have successfully removed that Mike Tyson tattoo and is still with his wife, Lauren (Jamie Chung). Meanwhile, Phil (Cooper) is still going strong in his marriage, as the guys and their wives get together for what looks like a night out on the town. Pilot Scoop: The New Normal

Glee creator Ryan Murphy is expanding his television empire with another envelope-pushing series.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy is expanding his television empire with another envelope-pushing series. Tonight, he's debuting a new half-hour comedy on NBC that's a bit more grown-up than the teen musical: The New Normal, about a gay couple trying to find a surrogate.

  • What it's about: Committed couple Bryan (Andrew Rannells) and David (Justin Bartha) want to add a tiny new member to their family. Though they would provide a loving and stable home, they're having trouble finding the right surrogate. Enter Goldie (Georgia King), a doe-eyed single mom whose cheating husband has left her looking for a major life change.
  • Where it works: The cast is solid; Ellen Barkin is the strongest link as Goldie's brazenly intolerant grandmother, and I was surprised by how well Bartha and Rannells (hot off his gig on Girls) mesh as the fathers-to-be. I was skeptical about the decision to have NeNe Leakes play Bryan's cheeky personal assistant, but I have to admit that I enjoyed her performance.
  • Where it doesn't: Goldie's naiveté is a bit unbelievable for someone who had a baby as a teenager. I'm not saying all teen moms have to be jaded, but her idealistic mentality gets grating.
  • When it's on: Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. on NBC
  • You might like this show if: You've been waiting to see a more progressive comedy on network TV.

Check out a preview of The New Normal after the jump.

Fall TV

The New Normal Is Based on Ryan Murphy's Own Life

Glee and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy is bringing another TV series to the Fall lineup, but this time, the subject matter is hitting a lot closer to home.

Glee and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy is bringing another TV series to the Fall lineup, but this time, the subject matter is hitting a lot closer to home. At the TCA panel for The New Normal, Murphy shared that the new show — about a gay couple who uses a surrogate to have a baby — is actually loosely based on his own life. Read on to get the details on that, as well as some fun tidbits from the stars of the show, including Justin Bartha and Andrew Rannells as the main couple, David and Bryan, and NeNe Leakes as Bryan's assistant.

  • Murphy was very forthcoming about how his own life was the loose inspiration for the show. He said that he and his partner have been having conversations about kids and surrogacy, and it seems that of the two characters, Bryan (Rannells) is modeled after Murphy. Murphy praised Rannell's hair and paid him a compliment, saying, "If someone's loosely playing you, you want them to be much better looking than you."
  • The New Normal has already been the subject of controversy, with the organization One Million Moms calling for a boycott. Murphy said he wasn't surprised to hear about the issue but that he finds it "interesting when people take that position before they've seen it," and added, "I actually think if they watched it, they'd like it." Rannells, who's best known for his role on Girls and the Broadway play Book of Mormon, made a joke about the situation, saying he was honored to be mentioned "by first and last name!"
  • Justin Bartha said that he wanted to get involved with the show after reading about Rannells and Murphy doing a show together, at which point he had already seen the former in Book of Mormon. "I kind of initiated it," he said, speaking very highly of Murphy: "Ryan is brilliant . . . a modern-day Oscar Wilde." Bartha added that he likes that The New Normal deals with "love [and] real issues in a nontrite way that is also entertaining."
  • Murphy talked about casting Leakes, whom he first cast on Glee as Roz because he had seen her "take down Star Jones on Celebrity Apprentice." He reached out to her again for this show because he thinks she's hilarious, and, as if proving his point, when Leakes was asked about the subject matter of the show, Leakes exclaimed, "I live in Atlanta, GA, and it's a very popular city for gays. We love them!"

Scarlett Johansson posed with her friends Zach Braff and Justin Bartha backstage on Saturday night at the debut of their play All New People. Zach wrote and directed the Second Stage Theater production, and Justin plays the lead. Scarlett, who acted in a Broadway play last year herself, was solo as she turned out to support the guys at the well-reviewed premiere. Scarlett and her ex Ryan Reynolds were spotted having a cozy dinner date in LA just last week, but the actress hasn't been linked to any other new guys since her recent split from Sean Penn. Instead, she has been focusing on work. She not only shot We Bought a Zoo opposite Matt Damon, but she's also currently starring as Black Widow in The Avengers.

The sequel, which hits theaters today, throws the wolf pack back into familiar circumstances after another bachelor party goes awry — read The Hangover Part II reviews to see what critics think of how the new installment compares to part one. The stars and director Todd Phillips had their first screening event last week on the West Coast, and made a stop in NYC for another showing earlier this week. Bradley managed to swing by SNL during his stay in the Big Apple, and joined host Justin Timberlake for the afterparty with Olivia Wilde. Bradley and Olivia were spotted sharing an intimate chat during the soiree, fueling rumors that they're dating.

Bradley, Zac, and Ed Look Forward to a Good Hangover at Their LA Premiere

The many men of The Hangover Part II gathered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre last night for their big LA premiere.

The many men of The Hangover Part II gathered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre last night for their big LA premiere. Bradley Cooper was dapper in a Tom Ford suit and flashed a big smile for photographers next to his costars Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms — they even had Crystal the Monkey there! Ken Jeong was one of the first down the carpet, and he spoke to us about his excitement at reuniting with the guys. He even admitted to being open to expanding his Mr. Chow character in a possible spinoff. Ken, who's actually an MD in real life, said his medical knowledge came in handy when some of his castmates came down with food poising while they filmed in Thailand! Ed Helms was likewise thrilled to get a meatier part in the sequel. His small-screen project, The Office, aired its season finale yesterday, and Ed revealed that he doesn't know what's next, but Steve Carell's rumored replacement, Catherine Tate, is a pro. The screening brought out plenty of famous faces, like cute couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shephard, Mike Tyson, and a super-pregnant Alyssa Milano. Kristen and Crystal shared an especially intimate moment. Stay tuned for more on today's PopSugar Rush!

The Hangover Part II Trailer Is Here: Same Story, New Setting

After a funny but ultra-brief teaser, we now a full trailer for The Hangover Part II.

After a funny but ultra-brief teaser, we now a full trailer for The Hangover Part II. Just like the first film, the guys are on the verge of a wedding, but this time it's Stu's, and instead of Vegas, they're in Thailand.

Although the trailer is definitely funny and holds lots of promise for more outrageous humor (you can't go wrong with a face tattoo bit), there's no originality to this follow-up story. From the bachelor trip to the loss and subsequent search for one of their posse, the plot is exactly the same. Even the nature of the jokes is about the same, which makes me think this movie will have no surprises. I loved the first movie, and I still love this gang, but I wish that there would be more to look forward to come May 26 when the movie is released. Let me know if you agree when you read more
