Nicole Kidman had the company of her husband, Keith Urban, last night on the red carpet in NYC. She was honored with a gala tribute during the New York Film Festival, and earlier in the day, attended a screening of her new movie, The Paperboy, with director Lee Daniels. The picture is a rather controversial one, and Nicole spoke about making tough decisions about her character in order to be comfortable personally. Apparently, Lee's script had Nicole saying the n-word. She declined, and in explaining her choice referred to her son with ex Tom Cruise, Connor. She said, "I have a son who is African American. I just didn't feel like it was right. What I try to do as an actor is fulfill a director's vision. I have opinions, but at the same time I'm not there to stop him from anything. I've really tried to do that in every film. I never want to pull them off their vision."
Wearing a red dress from her friend L'Wren Scott, Nicole spent the evening with her husband, Keith. He was on a break from his duties hosting American Idol. He shares a seat at the judges' table with Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, who apparently aren't getting along too well. Keith joked that he's a mediator on Idol between the two ladies. He's currently touring the country with Mariah, Nicki, and Randy Jackson, and was able to spend time in the Big Apple supporting his wife between auditions. Most recently, the gang assessed the talent in Charlotte, NC.
