Melanie Inglessis is one of the best known names in the business. The New York-based makeup artist has worked on makeup for every style bible going and continues to rack up celebrity fans from Mary Kate Olsen to Rosamund Pike.
More recently she's been working on a slew of events for Glee's Lea Michele.
This week I managed to grab Melanie for a quick chat about everything from her top makeup tips to her favourite products.
To check out what she said, just
What's been your inspiration for Lea Michelle's red carpet beauty?: "She's a very good collaborator. She's not afraid to take risks. I always like to do a nice dewy skin on her, as I think it makes her look really fresh. I like skin that breathes on the red carpet. I usually use a combination of Chanel Sublimage Rehydrating Cream (£22), with a light reflecting cream foundation. This locks the moisture in but it's not too shiny."
What's your favourite beauty trend right now?: "I like strong lips. I've been using darker colours, purples and deep reds on Mary Kate Olsen a lot. With Lea, I've been using bright reds. She looks great in them."
What are your tips for creating the same look?: "Firstly, make sure lips are moisturized (Chapped lips looks terrible when you wear a dark color as everything shows.) Apply concealer very lightly to the lip area to neutralize the lip colour ready for the lipstick (This also stops smudging which is important with strong colours.) Select a lip liner that is the nearest to the lipstick and draw the outline of your lips, work inside the lip line a bit too. Then apply the lipstick. Voila!"
What are your top three all-time beauty products?: "I love the Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier Pencils (£14). They are very easy to use and easy to blend with your fingers. Benefit Posie Tint (£23.50) is great. It's a lip and cheek stain. It comes in two shades and gives instant glow and freshness to the dullest complexion. Finally, YSL Touche Eclat (£19.75). Its a classic and really works magic. I use it well as a highlighter on cheekbones and bro bones."
