The 2024 Grammy Awards show took place on Sunday, Feb. 4 and some of Hollywood's biggest stars turned heads on the red carpet. Still, no one caused a stir quite like Miley Cyrus. The singer — who won her first accolade from the academy at the event — had three outfit changes, but her voluminous hairstyle took center stage in all of them.

Cyrus's hair seemed to take inspiration from musical legends like Tina Turner and her godmother, Dolly Parton. A grungy mix between a mullet and a layered haircut, Cyrus looked like a rockstar as she unknowingly stepped into one of the biggest nights of her career thus far. "Last year I featured Miley's wet look for hair. This year we decided we wanted something dry and bigger, more fuller hair, but sexy and tousled and touchable," Cyrus's hairstylist Bob Recine wrote in his Instagram caption recapping the look.

As you probably guessed, they looked to the past for inspiration. "We were looking to reference looks from the late '60s and early '70s where people like Richard Avedon were experimenting with big hair," Recine tells POPSUGAR. "[We] wanted to make it modern by incorporating new techniques to the teasing and leaving that work visible, rather than super coiffed, to give it an edge."

To get this look, the duo used the affordable hair-care brand Nexxus. First, Recine started by prepping Cyrus's wet hair with the brand's Epic-Shine Anti-Humidity Spray ($16) and Prep and Protect Heat Defense Spray ($19). The key to all of the body (and long-lasting hold) was hairspray. "To tease her hair and create all of the incredible volume, the XXL Volume Hairspray ($19) was crucial," Recine says. "It's a medium-hold, so it doesn't feel hard on the hair but it has an incredible grip that made her hair last throughout the entire night." And lastly, for extra shine, Recine used the Repair and Nourish Ultra Lightweight Hair Oil ($14).
