Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie left the kids at home last night in order to see the debut of Gods of Carnage at the Center Theater Group's Ahmanson playhouse in LA. The production recently moved west after a long run on Broadway, and the current iteration even features the original actors Jeff Daniels, Hope Davis, James Gandolfini, and Marcia Gay Harden. Brad and Angelina enjoyed the evening together after reportedly having a couples-only getaway to Lake Powell, UT, last month. They scheduled the romantic trip between Brad's days on the New Orleans set of Cogan's Trade and Angelina's humanitarian jet-setting, which recently brought her to Tunisia to advocate for Libyan refugees. Brad and Angelina will continue traveling next month with a trip to the Cannes Film Festival, so he can show off his movie Tree of Life and she can preview Kung Fu Panda 2. Angelina has yet another project on the way, with her new jewelry line Style of Jolie, which will benefit the charity Children in Crisis.

George Clooney Looks to Recent History For His Next Film Project

Want a lesson in the recent financial crisis, as taught by a movie star? George Clooney will produce and possibly direct a film about the 2009 Wall Street bailout. The film is loosely based on a 2009 article from the Washington Post titled "The $700 Billion Man." The piece, written by Laura Blumenfeld, is about TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) architect Neel Kashkari and the bank bailout after the 2008 economic collapse. Clooney, who helmed the Oscar-nominated Good Night and Good Luck, is currently directing The Ides of March.
2011 Cannes Lineup: Pitt, Depp, Gosling, and More Are Heading Overseas
The 2011 Cannes Film Festival is less than a month away, and the event will host some of Hollywood's biggest stars and premiere a ton of movies we've speculated about for months. We already knew that Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris would open the festival, and that Terrence Malick's much-anticipated Tree of Life would be in the competition. So what other films can we expect to hear about? The Ryan Gosling vehicle Drive will also be competing as well as Lars Von Trier's Melancholia and Pedro Almodovar's The Skin I Live In. Disney will be showcasing Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides out of the competition along with Jodie Foster's The Beaver.

That's just the tip of the iceberg though. See the full list of films after the break.
See Inside Gwyneth Paltrow's Star-Studded Cookbook Launch!
Gwyneth Paltrow hosted a dinner for her nearest and dearest on Monday evening at her pal Julian Schnabel's immense NYC home, Palazzo Chupi. We had a look at her famous guests leaving the bash earlier this week, and now here are snaps from inside! Gwyneth gathered her brother Jake, mom Blythe Danner, and husband Chris Martin to celebrate her new cookbook My Father's Daughter along with Cameron Diaz, Jay-Z, and many more. She kept the promotional appearances coming with a stint on Good Morning America yesterday and today on The Early Show. Despite all the emphasis on her kitchen skills, Gwyneth makes sure to keep her balance with serious dedication to her workouts. She showed off her hard work with trainer Tracy Anderson by doing the cover of Self magazine's May issue in a bikini top, and in an accompanying interview she discussed how her kids are the best inspiration to stay healthy and fit.
Jennifer Lawrence Poses in Bikinis and Heels For GQ
Jennifer Lawrence posed in bikinis, one-piece swimsuits, and high heels for the May issue of GQ. The Oscar-nominated actress, who made a name for herself in Winter's Bone, is making her blockbuster debut this Summer in X Men: First Class, but also keeping her indie cred with The Beaver, which is officially headed to Cannes. Jennifer will have to squeeze in that trip to France right before her transformation into scrappy Katniss Everdeen. We think Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games is perfect casting, but she'll reportedly be changing her look, starting with making those blond locks much darker for the role.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes Trailer: James Franco's Got Monkey Trouble
We saw some behind-the-scenes footage of Rise of the Planet of the Apes yesterday, but today brings the full trailer in all its glory. In the next brand-new chapter of the franchise, James Franco stars as Will, a scientist who's on the verge of changing the world by inventing "the cure": a drug that can cause the brain to repair itself. But, as his girlfriend (Freida Pinto) ominously points out, "some things aren't meant to be changed." When the drug is tested on an ape named Caesar (Andy Serkis), Will and his colleagues quickly learn they're dealing with more than just a cure for Alzheimer's. Caesar begins to display some seriously human-like qualities and starts a revolution with his fellow apes.

I wasn't expecting much from this film, but I have to admit the preview gave me goosebumps. The franchise is definitely getting a much-needed boost from modern technology (and it certainly doesn't hurt that the special effects are done by the same team that worked on Avatar). As with all of Planet of the Apes films, it raises the question of animal intelligence and cruelty while still packing in action sequences. We'll know more when the movie opens Aug. 5, but take a look at the preview when you read more
Drew Barrymore Celebrates a Detox With Jenna, Channing, and Fergie
Drew Barrymore stepped out in LA last night without her boyfriend Will Kopelman in order to toast pal Kimberly Snyder's new book The Beauty Detox Solution. Kimberly gathered even more of her famous friends for the event, including Hilary Duff, Fergie along with hosts Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. Channing was able to spend time socializing during a break from working on his next project — he blogged a photo from the production office of 21 Jump Street with Jonah Hill earlier this week. Jenna is likewise busy shooting the pilot for her new TV series The Playboy Club, and it apparently already has the approval of Hugh Hefner. Drew had the evening free from prepping for her own next big thing, which is directing the big-screen adaptation of How to Be Single. She's clearly off the market, though, as her relationship with Will continues to grow.
Bikini-Clad Gwyneth Paltrow Bares Her Sexy Abs For Self Magazine
Gwyneth Paltrow posed for Self's May cover in a bright blue swimsuit top and jean shorts. She's promoting her new cookbook, My Father's Daughter, and shares an excerpt from the book and some of yummy recipes, including fudgy chocolate brownies. Gwyneth Paltrow's bikini body stays in perfect shape thanks to all her workouts with Tracy Anderson, and the actress touches on her rigorous fitness routine, love for food, and being in the best shape of her life inside the issue. Read more quotes from Gwyneth:
- On being in the best shape of her life: "I never thought that I’d be considered to have a good body. I was bony up top and kind of dumpy on the bottom. But my trainer, Tracy Anderson, completely changed my legs, butt, arms and stomach. I feel better than ever, too."
- On making her workouts more intense: "If I’m prepping for something or I’ve been eating a lot of pie, I do two hours a day, six days a week for two weeks."
- On her inspiration: "I go with my instincts. We’re capable of pushing ourselves and doing whatever we want to do. You live one time, so be your best self."
- On making time for herself: "Taking care of yourself is being there for your kids, like how on a plane, they tell you to put on your oxygen mask first."
Abduction Trailer: Taylor Lautner, Teen Action Hero?
Taylor Lautner may be best known as Twilight's resident wolf boy, but he's stepping into the spotlight as a leading man in Abduction. Lautner plays Nathan, a high schooler who feels "different" despite his heartthrobby looks (which are only enhanced by his motorbike and sunglasses), position on the wrestling team, and typical weekends spent drinking with his peers. After receiving a tip-off from a friend (Lily Collins), Nathan recognizes himself on a missing persons website and realizes that his whole life has been a lie. What starts out as a teen movie quickly turns into an high-speed chase, packed with explosions, make-out sessions, and martial arts prowess from Lautner.

The film seems to be going for a Disturbia-esque vibe, as Nathan's struggles to solve a mystery as the people he loves are under attack. Lautner may be game to do his own stunts, but I still might need some convincing on his acting skills for the emotional scenes. Still, it's pretty slick for a high school movie.
