The current economic crisis is restricting some members of the fashion industry but clearly Gareth Pugh isn't one of them. The young British designer took his collection to Paris last season and will expand again for Autumn 2009 by adding a menswear string to his bow.
Today it has been revealed that Pugh is part of the Paris menswear schedule for January planning to present at the Palais De Tokyo. He has included menswear pieces in his show before (although not for Spring 09) but this is the first time he has dedicated a whole show to men.
He explained to WWD, “Following the last show, the first show where I did not have any male models, lots of people commented on there not being any men’s wear in the collection….It felt like a good time to take on a new challenge and do a men’s wear collection. The collection will have all the staples of a men’s wear show, but obviously with my own slant."
Rick Owens will also present his first menswear line. When asked if he has any tricks up his sleeve he joked, “I don’t know how anyone can be surprised by anything anymore. Isn’t it surprise enough that I’ve picked the worst financial climate to propose men’s fashions?”
