Gray Hair Pill

L'Oréal Has Developed a Pill to Prevent Gray Hair

Silver foxes like Helen Mirren may soon be an endangered species. According to London's The Sunday Times, L'Oréal will have a pill that prevents gray hair out within the next four years. "We intend people to take it in the same way as a dietary supplement," L'Oréal's Bruno Bernard told The Times. "It won't be expensive. Ideally, you would take it for your whole life, but realistically we would encourage people to start using it before their hair goes gray, because we don't think it can reverse the process once it has started."

Gray hair happens because as you age your cells don't produce as much of a "helper" enzyme called tyrosinase-related protein-2. L'Oréal has developed a proprietary fruit-derived enzyme that it thinks will be able to mimic the effects of your natural protein, but it won't be revealing exactly what the enzyme is until the International Investigative Dermatology in 2013, closer to the pill's release date. Tell us what you think: would you try a pill of this sort?

I would do anything to not have to spend $210 every 5 weeks to color my hair, not to mention the smell, it's time consuming, and it damages the hair. I could actually spend that money elsewhere, like having fun. All of my friends would definitely love to get their hands on this product. There is no such thing as growing old gracefully, and sometimes ladies gray just isn't your color, everyone wants to look youthful!

I would take it. I am allergic to hair dyes that contains that known carcinogen. And henna is time consuming.

I found my first gray hair at 24, and now they're coming in more fully. So far, I'm leaving them alone, but if they ever bother me, it's off to dye for yours truly. I probably wouldn't take a pill, though — seems like nature just does its thing, so I don't want to mess with it.

I don't know...I like the whole growing old gracefully thing, but that said, i haven't had a gray hair yet, so I don't know how I'd feel once I start to go gray!

I don't think I'd be interested in this pill. I think there is something very graceful about a woman having gray hair. My mom is 59 and just started getting gray hair and it looks great. However, if I was someone who started graying in my early 20s, I might feel differently about it.

i hate gray hair. it just grosses me out. and since i started going gray at 28, i color my hair. it costs me $140 every 5 weeks for a cut, color & highlights. but i can't do it myself. (tat was a big FAIL) i read that you'd have to take this pill for something like 10 years for it to work. I don't like taking pills. so, i suppose i'm stuck w/ my salon expense.

I don't mind having a little gray hair, either. It would be nice though, if it could grow in perfect streaks — Stacy London-style!!

Hellz no. Even IF it works, I wouldn't take it for the same reason I'm not interested in botox - grey hair is like wrinkles: I may not be pleased with either, but if it upsets me that much then I have a whole other set of issues that need addressing. Plus, I think grey hair can actually be gorgeous (even though I *flipped* the F out when I saw my first grey hair patch, ahem).
