Are Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton in cahoots with the Mulleavy sisters? The Preen collection had one very big thing in common with last week's Rodarte show, and it came right out of left field! It seems fashion is going geeky this season, by paying homage to Star Wars. And if you thought the Rodarte dresses featuring Han Solo and C-3PO were good, you wait to see what Preen has done to Darth Vader.
The masked villain appeared on outfits throughout the show, screen printed onto shirts, silk dresses, and tops. Somehow, despite the novelty value of using such a pop culture icon, the collection still felt quite grown-up, thanks to incredible coats, clever layering, and the use of intricate devoré alongside graphic prints. The Preen girl was a chic geek, teaming her fur-trimmed parkas with metallic skirts, leather trousers, and suitcase-strap belts in shades of orange, khaki, and black. Even if the Vader prints are a little too much for you, there will be pieces in this show that you instantly covet, from the boho dresses to the slim tailored trousers.
