We're counting down to Catching Fire's November release date, even more so now that we've seen the first trailer for the Hunger Games sequel. Even though its November 22 release date sounds so far away, we have a few pictures to look at from the movie, including shots of new characters like Finnick and Plutarch, played by Sam Claflin and Philip Seymour Hoffman. And of course, there are some juicy shots of returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and more — see them in their finest winners' duds along with the rest of all the pictures we've seen of Catching Fire so far.
Catching Fire Teaser: Katniss and Peeta Are Back!
Those who were watching the MTV Movie Awards got a special sneak peek of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson in Catching Fire — and we have it right here, too! The clip shows some gruesome scenes from the book (like Gale's whipping) and hints at the impending revolution — along with a steamy kiss between Gale and Katniss. We even get a look at Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, but unfortunately there's no look at the tropical arena just yet.
The second Hunger Games movie isn't coming out until Nov. 22, so thank goodness we're getting a look at Katniss, Peeta, and the whole crew to tide us over until then. Did you miss it? No worries — we've got the teaser after the jump.
Catching Fire Alert: See Katniss and Peeta in a New Hunger Games Poster!
Hunger Games fans, get excited! Catching Fire may not be coming out until November, but today we get to see an exciting new poster for the sequel. It features Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) in what looks like the Capitol's poster for their Hunger Games Victory Tour. Naturally, they look like the winners they are: cleaned-up, well-dressed, and close enough to each other that you'd believe they were in love. While I've been enjoying seeing Lawrence on the award-show circuit, this poster reminds me that what I really can't wait to see her in is this movie. Check out a larger version of the poster and let me know what you think after the jump.
Red Dawn Trailer: Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson Take the US Back
Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson weren't hot young stars quite yet when they filmed Red Dawn in 2009, but they are now, which means it's a great time for the movie to be released. In the trailer for the reboot of the '80s film, Hemsworth stars as Jed, a Marine who's visiting home when the United States is suddenly and aggressively attacked by North Korean forces. As the government (and society as we know it) collapses, Jed escapes with his younger brother Matt (Josh Peck) and then heads up a ragtag group of renegades (including Hutcherson) determined to fight the communist invaders and save the country.
It's not just Hemsworth and Hutcherson that make this preview so exciting — the special effects look awesome and the story line seems accessible, even for people who don't love political thrillers. The action-packed flick opens in November, but you can take a peek at the trailer after the jump.
Josh Hutcherson Talks Catching Fire's New Director at the GLAAD Awards
Josh Hutcherson was honored with the Vanguard Award tonight in downtown LA at the GLAAD Media Awards. The celebration honored actors, entertainers, TV shows, and films that have helped support the LGBT community through their work. Joshua Jackson, Milla Jovovich, Betty White, Ali Larter, and Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi were also in attendance to lend their support to the cause. Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson was yet another guest of honor and accepted an award on behalf of his hit sitcom during the ceremony.
We caught up with Josh on the press line to talk about his campaign for Straight Not Narrow, which is geared toward combating homophobia, and the most inspiring letter he received from a teen who was touched by its message. We also spoke with him about the news that Francis Lawrence, the director behind Water For Elephants and I Am Legend, will helm Catching Fire. Josh admitted to us that he hasn't yet met Francis but expressed excitement about working with him on the second installment of the franchise, which is set to hit theaters in the Fall of 2013. Stay tuned for Monday's PopSugar Rush to watch more of our interview with Josh and catch all the highlights from the 2012 GLAAD Awards!
Josh and Liam Tackle Another Hunger Games Premiere Amid Huge Opening Weekend Projections
Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth were without their leading lady Jennifer Lawrence, but they were joined by costar Alexander Ludwig, who plays Cato, for their Hunger Games premiere in Toronto last night. The guys are making the rounds in Canada, stopping by The Marilyn Denis Show in the morning and then MuchMusic in the afternoon before their big red carpet. Early reviews for the highly-anticipated movie are largely positive and the buzz is only building ahead of Friday's release date. Current projections are saying that The Hunger Games could rake in $130-140 in its opening weekend, which would make it the biggest March movie opening of all time. It would be a huge triumph for the studio and the young cast, who have been tirelessly promoting The Hunger Games around the world in recent weeks. The marketing strategy has still kept much of the movie — including any glimpse of the games themselves — a secret, and to gear up, BuzzSugar revealed the Hunger Games scenes we're most excited to see.
Hunger Games' Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks Go With Fiery Shades in Berlin
The Hunger Games rolled into Berlin today for the film's latest premiere. Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks arrived in fiery hues while Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson stuck with traditional dark suits. Germany marks the third stop on the European leg of their international press tour following layovers earlier this week in Paris and London.
Elizabeth picked a bright Elie Saab for today's event while Jennifer switched up her look by choosing a short red Marchesa, which showed off her fit legs. Her legs and arms were a hot topic recently while chatting with press about her action scenes. Jennifer describes her running in the film as "unfortunate" due to her "karate hands." We talked with her condtioning coach and got the behind-the-scenes secrets to achieving Katniss's form — stay tuned for more on how to run like Jennifer and how she got in shape for the role of a lifetime.
Jennifer Lawrence Strikes a Pose in Paris With Liam, Elizabeth, and Josh
The stars of The Hunger Games took their press tour to Paris today. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, and Liam Hemsworth posed together during a photocall after popping up in London for a red carpet premiere yesterday. In the UK, Jennifer wore a gold Ralph Lauren gown, much like the Prabal Gurung look she chose at Monday night's world premiere in LA. This evening, though, she chose a simple black Tom Ford dress with an open back. Elizabeth Banks brought a pop of color in a berry-hued embellished outfit while Josh and Liam looked dapper in suits.
Jennifer recently addressed rumors of a feud between the Hunger Games and Twilight stars, saying that she actually contacted Kristen Stewart. Jennifer told Access Hollywood, "I just shot her an email, and was like, 'Hey, can't wait to see more as this feud unfolds!'" She "wrote me back, and she was like, 'It's fine.' So, she understood."
The Hunger Games World Premiere Pics — See Miley, Liam, Josh, and Jennifer!
The cast of The Hunger Games and a few hundred of the series' most faithful fans gathered at the Nokia Theatre in LA last night for the big world premiere. Jennifer Lawrence was the main event, decked out in a gold Prabal Gurung gown that showed off her back with sexy cutouts. We chatted with fans who called Jennifer their "ultimate girl crush" and the woman who has become Katniss Everdeen for the big screen certainly made an entrance. Liam Hemsworth, looking dapper in Dolce & Gabbana, brought girlfriend Miley Cyrus, who was in a two-piece Pucci number and a 10-carat Azature black diamond ring to match. While Liam has seen The Hunger Games, he revealed that it would be Miley's first viewing.
Josh Hutcherson, in Z Zegna, was exuberant as always on the red carpet and there were plenty of devoted Team Peeta followers swooning and screaming to keep that smile on his face. Elizabeth Banks let Effie Trinket be her inspiration in a brightly colored Versace number. We also caught up with Stanley Tucci, Wes Bentley, Amandla Stenberg, and many more — in case you missed it, you can still watch our The Hunger Games red carpet show. Check out tons of pics, and don't miss any of our coverage of The Hunger Games on DistrictSugar leading up to the movie's March 23 release.
