Anne Hathaway arrived at the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday to promote her movie Rachel Getting Married, a film I'm looking forward to for the chance to see Anne playing against her usual type. In Jonathan Demme's movie she plays Kym, a woman who has been in and out of rehab for ten years and returns home for her sister's wedding – and at Venice she showed off the shorter choppy hairstyle that she had cut for filming. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Natalie Portman unveiled her short film directorial debut Eve at the Venice Film Festival yesterday. The 17 minute short marks the first of two projects she has directed, including part of the collaborative movie New York, I Love You. When I met her back in February I was struck by her intelligence, and she looked stunning over the weekend when she picked up a humanitarian award, as well as working both casual and formal styles in Venice yesterday.

It was a hectic weekend at Venice Film Festival, filled with events and screenings for the international attendees. Charlize Theron was spotted in three different outifts as she sped around promoting her movie The Burning Plain, a drama in which she plays Kim Basinger's daughter. Natalie Portman arrived in Italy over the weekend and was beaming as she picked up a humanity award at the Kineo Italian Movie Awards for her involvement in social and environmental programmes.

Glam was the name of the game at the Venice Film Festival last night, as Valentino: The Last Emperor premiered to an audience of fashion lovers. The subject of the documentary, designer Valentino Garavani, attended the premiere to see the product of hours of filming that took place between 2005 and 2007 – when he retired as head of the fashion house. Despite his retirement it feels like he hasn't really gone away thanks to his retrospective in Paris, and this documentary!

The premiere of Burn After Reading opened the 2008 Venice Film Festival last night, and the stars of the film embarked on a day of promotion along with directors Joel and Ethan Coen. Brad Pitt and George Clooney's rapport was in full swing – they fooled around with their co-stars Tilda Swinton and Frances McDormand in the audience at the premiere, before a surprised Brad Pitt was presented with the Best Actor award he wasn't able to pick up last year for The Assassination Of Jesse James.
The mistress of ceremonies then gave Brad a yellow flower to pass on to his buddy George!

No prizes for guessing where I'd like to be right now. George Clooney and Brad Pitt are both in Italy for the start of the Venice Film Festival, and both were looking as dashing as ever yesterday. Brad was in Dad mode during the day, taking the gorgeous Pax and adorable Maddox out on a boat through the famous canals.
