Sporty Home Separates Inspired by Marc by Marc Jacobs

Did you catch the sporty vibe in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection?

Did you catch the sporty vibe in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2012 collection? The relaxed look, poppy colors, and stripes in the collection instantly inspired me to look for sporty "separates" in the home decorating world.

To get the look, start with bright colors, such as the shades of blue found in the Nesting Side Tables & Step Stools by Areaware ($400, middle row, right). Also available in shades of green and charcoal, this set of three nesting tables each opens at the top, with safety hinged lids for inconspicuous storage.

Another favorite are the West Elm Pendant Cord Set ($30, top). You can add a colorful twist to industrial style, and customize the look by choosing all one color, or a variety to fit your needs.

Behind the Design: David Stark Dishes on His Vision For the Target Missoni Pop-Up Shop!

We're so thrilled to welcome back guest writer David Stark!

We're so thrilled to welcome back guest writer David Stark! Today, he shares the décor and layout for the Target Missoni pop-up shop he designed!

We were very busy during New York Fashion Week premiering the Missoni For Target line of apparel and housewares in a two-story, pop-up shopping spectacular on the corner of 42nd Street and 6th Avenue, and it was a fabulous project in so many ways. It’s no secret that my love affair with Target is the stuff of dreams, and when the collaboration is with such a cool, iconic fashion house, the ante is upped that much more. This project, though, was also so exciting, because it was a wonderful design challenge. Challenge? Sure. Taking a raw space and transforming it into a temporary fantasy land is always a fun ride for any designer. Working within the Missoni visual language of bold pattern and color, though, is its own world.

Keep reading to learn more about the pop-up shop, and check out some truly inspiring photos!

Get the Look: Geometric Prints at Derek Lam

Derek Lam's Spring 2012 collection channeled midcentury luxury, and as FabSugar noted about the Derek Lam show, "Think Palm Springs, Frank Sinatra, and Angie Dickinson by the pool, and you have the inspiration for Lam's upbeat collection that still carried his signature clean lines and classic silhouettes."

One of my favorites from the collection was this '60s geometric print dress, whose look reflected many prints I've been spotting in the décor world as well.

To get the look of this vibrant design, head for furniture and accents featuring cubes, spheres, hexagons, and other geometric patterns. Home décor from designers like Trina Turk and Jonathan Adler are always a good bet as is the current product line from DwellStudio.

One of my current favorites is FermLiving's Squares Blanket ($150, middle row, left). The overlapping Escher-like cube print is super fresh right now, and since the blanket's made of cotton, not wool, you can use it in all seasons.

I also can't forget the Kartell Componibili Round Three-Door Tower ($160, bottom row, far right). A long-time favorite, this piece may not feature a geometric pattern, but its mix of cylinder, rectangle, and circle within its design make it an obvious choice. Use it as a side table, bedside dresser, or catchall in a hallway.

From the Runway to Your Home: Emerson's Runway Show and Eskayel's Wallpapers

Boston-based designer Jackie Fraser-Swan, who shows her collection under the name Emerson — a reference to her middle name as well as the designer's famous distant relative, Ralph Waldo Emerson — just showed her first collection at the tents at Lincoln Center this morning in New York.

Boston-based designer Jackie Fraser-Swan, who shows her collection under the name Emerson — a reference to her middle name as well as the designer's famous distant relative, Ralph Waldo Emerson — just showed her first collection at the tents at Lincoln Center this morning in New York. A major talent, this emerging designer's Spring 2012 collection featured a predominantly black, white, and gray collection that paid homage to the '70s with its chic and sophisticated tie-dye prints. If you're interested in seeing the entire collection, you can watch a video of the Emerson Spring 2012 runway show on the label's site. I loved many of the pieces in the line, including this chic double-breasted, tie-dye jacket, which immediately reminded me of another favorite designer who works with interiors.

Brooklyn-based design studio Eskayel turns designer Shanan Campanaro's imagery from her paintings into incredible bespoke wall coverings, textiles, pillows, ceramics, and wallpaper, all of which are all locally sourced and fabricated in the northeastern United States. The design shown above, Splatter Spell Granite wallpaper ($5-$490) is one of the many wallpaper designs based on Shanan Campanaro's paintings. The wallpaper is a latex-based, nylon-reinforced paper, which is a green alternative to vinyl, and is available for residential and commercial use. I met Shanan when I was at ICFF this Spring and had the opportunity to check out many of Eskayel's products in person while chatting with the painter and designer. The shibori-like quality of the textiles and wallpapers is exquisite and a very close match to the fabrics used at the Emerson show.

Have You Framed Your Flatscreen?

Designed by Wesley Cadle, the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge at Lincoln Center is full of luxurious touches, including glazed linen walls, golden-framed artwork, and velvet upholstered furniture.

Designed by Wesley Cadle, the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge at Lincoln Center is full of luxurious touches, including glazed linen walls, golden-framed artwork, and velvet upholstered furniture. The lounge, part of Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2012 at Lincoln Center, also has a rather covert, techy feature on the wall, which you can see on the right-hand side of this photo. Cadle framed the flat screen television with the same frames he used for the artwork in the room, effectively camouflaging the television. It's a great trick for minimizing a glaring tech necessity in a living room or bedroom at your home. Have you tried this?

Red carpets may roll in New York and Paris for the arrival of Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, but New Orleans's low-key fashion week acknowledges her with its own Southern charm.

Red carpets may roll in New York and Paris for the arrival of Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, but New Orleans's low-key fashion week acknowledges her with its own Southern charm. Artist Sarah Ashley Longshore is showing off her paintings this week, which use Anna's famous visage to critique the fashion and modeling industry as a whole. And it's not pretty.
