This week's casting news got superexciting, particularly with the news that Ben Affleck will play the lead in the adaptation of a hot bestseller. In addition to Affleck, Johnny Depp, Halle Berry, Chloë Moretz, and more actors signed up for new roles. Click through all the casting bits, and let us know what you're most excited about.
The trailer for Cherry kicks off like an after-school special: pretty teenage girl moves to San Francisco, dreams of becoming a model, gets mixed up with the wrong people, and ends up a porn star. The girl, Angelina (Ashley Hinshaw) is also trying to sort out her relationship with an older man (James Franco) and a close male friend who is clearly in love with her (Dev Patel).
Though the trailer makes me believe the film may be slightly sugar-coated (Hinshaw never seems to lose her smile, and the story line with Patel could be too sweet to believe), but I'm interested in this one for the cast, which also includes Heather Graham. Today's amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Antibes drew a glamorous crowd of stars. The event, held during the nearby Cannes Film Festival, was attended by judging panel members Jude Law and Uma Thurman, as well as celebrities from the worlds of music and fashion. Kanye West, Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, and Janet Jackson were some of the recording artists who made their way down the white carpet. Supermodels Doutzen Kroes, Bar Refaeli, and Naomi Campbell joined designers like Karl Lagerfeld and amfAR chair Kenneth Cole at the fundraiser. This evening's swanky fête was one of several that have taken place during the annual cinema celebration. Earlier this week, a Chopard soirée drew many of the same famous faces, including Bar and Jude. Since the festival first kicked off on May 11, the stars have been keeping busy on the gala circuit, relaxing on the water on board mega yachts owned by the likes of Steven Spielberg and Microsoft's Paul Allen, and walking the red carpets at movie premieres like Brad Pitt's The Tree of Life, which debuted on Monday.
One of my favorite actors is turning to porn: Heather Graham's part hearkens back to her Boogie Nights role; she's a former porn star turned director.
Cherry is the directorial debut by author Stephen Elliott, who already has a Franco connection: the actor will star in and direct the film adaptation of Elliott's book The Adderall Diaries.
As well as all the beautiful women, the BAFTA Awards brought lots of gorgeous guys to the Royal Opera House in London this evening. Gerard Butler, Nicholas Hoult, and James McAvoy were amongst the British actors who walked the red carpet. Rupert Grint posed solo, while Paul McCartney brought two guests. Several men entered the ceremony with their partner, including Aaron Johnson and Sam Taylor-Wood and The King's Speech couples Colin Firth and Livia Giuggioli plus Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton. Tim also posed with Christopher Lee inside, and Andrew Garfield and Jesse Eisenberg both represented The Social Network. Check out the full list of winners and see lots of pictures from the press room. Click through to see which other guys wore a suit tonight, including host Jonathan Ross, Dev Patel, Samuel L Jackson, Dominic Cooper, Mark Ruffalo, Jamie Campbell Bower, and many more.
After their time onstage, the stars at the BAFTAs made their way to the press room. The winners, including Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter, posed happily with their awards, while the presenters had photos taken too. Dominic Cooper and Rosamund Pike laughed off their autocue difficulty together, while The King's Speech cast and crew gathered together after the Best Film award was given out. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint represented Harry Potter, while two ex-Skins castmembers turned Hollywood stars attended — Dev Patel and Nicholas Hoult. Check out all the winners here, and click through to see all the photos from backstage!
Ed Westwick posed for pictures as he started work on The Commuter in London yesterday. He stars in the short film, which is shot on the Nokia N8, with Dev Patel and Pamela Anderson. After filming scenes in NYC for Gossip Girl with Leighton Meester last week, Ed is back on home turf for his latest project. He revealed that he's often mistaken for another British export, saying: "People come up to me so many times and think I'm Robert Pattinson and it's so bizarre but it's good company to be in".
The Toronto Film Festival played host to the Black Swan and Rabbit Hole premieres last night, after the day's press conferences. Nicole Kidman and her hubby Keith Urban walked the red carpet for the latter, before Aaron Eckhart stood on a chair to pose for photos with leggy Nicole, who looked chic in a blue dress. Freida Pinto wore a stunning red dress to walk the red carpet with Dev Patel for Miral, while Rachel Weisz attended her hubby Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan premiere once she had walked the red carpet for The Whistleblower. Natalie Portman was joined by costars Winona Ryder, and Matthieu Kassovitz, but not Mila Kunis who's still filming with Justin Timberlake.

It was a good weekend of manjoyment in Canada, with a handful of Hollywood's hottest touching down to promote movie projects at the Toronto Film Festival. Josh Hartnett had a busy Saturday at the premiere of his Bunraku before moving on with his cast to the afterparty. Scott Speedman looked good in his denim shirt with his costars like Minnie Driver at a press conference for Barney's Version. Matt Damon kept the good times going at a screening of Hereafter with Bryce Dallas Howard and their director Clint Eastwood. Freida Pinto and Dev Patel upped the festival's cute factor by making an adorable and PDA-filled cameo supporting her new Woody Allen project You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. Hayden Christensen and Thandie Newton stuck together for their red carpet debut of Vanishing on 7th Street. The cinema event is in full swing following a star-studded few days — stay tuned for more!
