Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst were on hand for the Cannes Film Festival's closing ceremony last night. The cinema event's winners were announced once the stars gathered inside, and Kirsten took home the prize for best actress in Melancholia. Her big-screen skills luckily took center stage after the film's director Lars von Trier made controversial remarks about Nazism, which got him subsequently banned from Cannes, during a press conference. Ryan made an appearance to support Nicolas Winding Refn as he won best director for Drive, even demonstrating his love for Nicolas with a smack on the lips. The festival's biggest honor, the Golden Palm, went to Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life after the film's screening met mixed reviews. Brad Pitt, who stars in the drama, wasn't able to attend the show since he already made the trip back to LA to join Angelina Jolie and their kids at her Kung Fu Panda 2 premiere.
Between the trailer for Perfect Sense and now this preview, the universe is really feeding my love for Ewan McGregor this month. The perennially charismatic actor stars in Beginners, a movie that appears to be as charming as its lead. Things start off shaky, with McGregor's character Oliver talking to a dog like he's a human, and the dog sort of responds with subtitles. Keep watching: we're let in to other aspects of Oliver's life, like the father who's recently come out to him (Christopher Plummer), and Anna, the new woman in his life that he's falling for (the radiant Melanie Laurent, the badass heroine of Inglourious Basterds).
Though Oliver's life at first seems lonely, it appears that he's given the chance to grow through the revelations of his father's sexuality, and later, his dad's diagnosis of terminal cancer. Even his new relationship with Anna has its flaws, which Oliver seems to embrace. The tone feels very sweet and touching, and as long as that dog doesn't actually start talking, I'll be excited to see it when it comes to cinemas in June. Watch the trailer when you read more
The Cannes Film Festival came to an end with the closing ceremony this weekend, but before that there were a few more premieres and parties. Lily Cole showed off her amazing legs at the Dior dinner alongside Melanie Laurent and Lou Doillon. Before performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend, Cheryl Cole drew attention at the Outside of the Law premiere on Friday in a stunning white dress with daring cut-out sections at the sides. She walked the red carpet alongside stars like Kristin Scott-Thomas who wore a unique necklace, and Beth Ditto. Lindsay Lohan enjoyed her last day at Cannes on a yacht before returning to the US to finally attend the court date she missed while at the festival.
The nominees for the Empire Awards 2010 have been announced, and you can decide who wins by voting for the nominees including Aaron Johnson, Emily Blunt, and Robert Pattinson. Avatar and Inglourious Basterds are both up for five awards each, while Carey Mulligan is up for best newcomer and best actress! Voting closes on March 10 — let me know who you want to win the trophies!

Quentin Tarantino premiered Inglourious Basterds at a special screening in New York last night, with stars Diane Kruger and Melanie Laurent. Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford and Sebastian Stan also showed up to see the movie, as did Lindsay Lohan and us Brits were represented by Alexa Chung and Agyness Deyn — I love her Rocky Horror shirt! Other guests at the star studded event included Gina Gershon, John Stamos, Eva Amurri, Corbin Bleu, Eric Mabius and Emma Roberts. What a fun night!

Quentin Tarantino has taken his new movie Inglourious Basterds around Europe already, premiering it to audiences on this side of the pond with Diane Kruger. Last night the film finally got its Hollywood premiere, with star couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie ensuring that it was a big event. Star of the movie Brad looked dashing in his suit, while Angelina looked picture perfect beside him in her rock chic dress and heels. Other stars at the premiere included Christina Ricci, Melanie Laurent and BJ Novak, who costars in the film, and attended alongside his The Office costars Jenna Fischer, Mindy Kaling and Angela Kinsey.
At the afterparty Diane laughed with Sarah Silverman, and caught up with movie mogul Harvey Weinstein — looks like they all had a glorious night!

After dining with Angelina last night, Brad Pitt got down to business at the Cannes Film Festival this morning. He slipped into a pale suit, scarf and sunnies to join Diane Kruger and Quentin Tarantino for the Inglourious Basterds photocall at the Palais Des Festivals: check out new clips from the film after the jump. The trio were joined by fellow cast and crew members Mike Myers, Christoph Waltz, Melanie Laurent, Lawrence Bender, Eli Roth and Michael Fassbender. I'm looking forward to seeing them at the red carpet premiere tonight, are you?
