The X Factor kicked off on ITV1 last night with auditions at London's O2, meaning a brand new audition format where a huge audience is sat just beyond the judges. The new format certainly made it all feel a little different — and similar to Britain's Got Talent — and it drastically upped the cringe factor for the bad auditions.
Danyl Johnson was the last person to audition on last night's programme and he showed why the massive audience might occasionally win us over — he really worked the crowd with his fantastic performance.

I'm getting really excited about tomorrow's The X Factor grand final! This season has been one of the best so far, thanks in huge measure to Cheryl Cole being added in to the mix, and it looks like it will be crowned your favourite reality show of 2008. Three acts will battle it out for your vote, and each represents a different category.

Diana Vickers just missed out on making it into the final, as she received the fewest votes from the public and was voted off The X Factor semi final on Saturday.
Although some of the contestants had to fight illness during the week, they all came on stage and gave it their all, performing two songs each.
In our live chat lots of us were touched by Eoghan's tears: it came down to the two possible lovebirds, and he was distraught his best friend had to leave.

Ruth Lorenzo left The X Factor on Saturday, receiving the lowest number of votes from the public. The judges now have no say in who stays and who goes.
The big excitement of the evening was, of course, Britney Spears' performance of "Womanizer".

Prepare to get excited people: Britney Spears is on her way to the UK! The princess of pop flew from LAX Airport yesterday to start her mini tour of Europe, going from Germany to France, accompanied by dad Jamie and his protective hands. Come Saturday, Britney will be on our shores, performing on The X Factor and possibly at G-A-Y too, ahead of Circus' release on Monday.

Rachel Hylton left The X Factor on Saturday, because only her own mentor Dannii voted to keep her over JLS.
Simon saved the boy band because Rachel had been in the bottom two three times, but it certainly looked like it was a close call between the two acts. As I said during our live chat on the evening, I hope we'll see Rachel in the future.

It finally happened: Daniel Evans was voted off The X Factor on Saturday night.
Following Laura White's controversial exit the week before, nothing would have surprised me this weekend. The final seven contestants, including poorly Diana, performed Best of British songs.

Sugababes Heidi, Keisha and Amelle were given the honour of turning on Oxford Street's Christmas lights in London yesterday in front of 50,000 fans. They were joined on stage by The X Factor finalists Daniel Evans, Rachel Hylton, Ruth Lorenzo and Alexandra Burke, who performed "Hero". Talk turned to Laura White's controversial exit from the show, with Keisha saying "I almost smashed my TV" and Heidi adding "Laura should not have been kicked out".

- Laura White was "head and shoulders" above Ruth Lorenzo in The X Factor public vote, and Saturday's result was brought up in the House of Commons by Culture Secretary Andy Burnham, who said Laura had been “harshly” treated by the judges. More than 5,000 fans have signed an online petition for Laura to be reinstated or get a record deal. — The Mirror
