Deanna Shoyoye

POPSUGAR Contributor

If I'm every woman were a person... Let's talk politics and pop culture, education and liberation, hip-hop and mental health. A native Chicagoan, and longtime Atlanta resident, Deanna is a counselor, educator and writer committed to fostering equity and empathy for all people, especially children and those who are systemically marginalized. A lover of music and film across genres, discourse despite differences and a good time no matter the circumstances, Deanna embraces that life is a mixed bag and so are our interests and experiences. Wife, mother to three incredible children, daughter and sister-friend to many, she critically examines how we embrace the roles in our lives, create our own identities and balance it all while engaging with the world around us in a curious, authentic and ever-evolving way. Deanna completed her undergraduate studies at Spelman College and holds a M.Ed from Saint Xavier University in both School and Community Mental Health Counseling.
