12/08/2020 - 07:40 AM

If there's anything we took away from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's record-shattering new music video for "WAP" [1] — aside from how important it is for women to own their sexuality — it's that '90s hairstyles are definitely making a comeback. More specifically, the french roll updo often accompanied by tight curls and a swooped bang (see: Halle Berry in the movie BAPS [2]) that rose to popularity during the decade.

With some direction celebrity hairstylists from Kellon Deryck [3] and Tokyo Stylez [4], the rappers both wore the style on the single's cover art [5] as well as in the video that accompanied it. Since "WAP" premiered on Aug. 7, the style has taken on a new life.

In the last few days, plenty of people on the internet have attempted to recreate the hairstyle on their own. Many of them have put their own spin on the updo, though they still credit the video as their inspiration. Read ahead to check out some of our favourite modern takes on the '90s french roll updo.
