Bachelorette Hannah's Makeup Artist Interview

The Surprising Beauty Moments You Can Expect on This Season of The Bachelorette

In the case of season 15 Bachelorette Hannah Brown vs. 33 potential suitors, it seems the ante has officially been bumped up a notch. Not only has ABC given fans insight into the men's deepest secrets (like a self-proclaimed love for Justin Bieber and, you know, the casual spawning of 114 children), but the show's longtime makeup artist Gina Modica said Brown's beauty game will also be just as juicy.

"I think people will be surprised to see how many different looks she can carry," said Modica. Despite the neutral makeup you'll see Brown wearing during the first rose ceremony, Modica assured us: "She loves to shake things up. We tried to make each look different — sometimes we went bolder with deep, dark colours. I can't give any of that away right now, but as you watch the episodes, you will definitely notice."

Check out what is sure to be some of the season's most dramatic (which tends to mean: not that dramatic, but still good) behind-the-scenes beauty secrets ahead.

The Best Makeup For Those Beach or Daytime Dates

Modica has endured her fair share of dates in paradise, which means she's well equipped with the right products at all times. "I'm used to working in different climates so I try to avoid the problem before it happens," she said. "I used a few different foundations on her depending on the look I wanted or the climate we where in. To avoid the makeup from slipping in the heat I blend foundation with a sunscreen so it's just a light coverage."

Brown used the Hourglass Cosmetics Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint ($56) with the Dermalogica Solar Defence Booster SPF 50. "It worked great for the daytime dates when she needed a lot of protection from the sun, but wanted a natural makeup look."

Keeping the Bachelorette's Skin Protected

Maintaining a regimented skin care routine (which included the Dermalogica Solar Defence Booster SPF 50 ($43)) was also key to keeping Brown's skin in check. "Hannah has great skin with the rare exceptions of a few breakouts," said Modica. "That's normal for the amount of stress, travel, and climate changes she goes through. I think her skin was pretty flawless throughout the season."

The Hardest Part of Doing Makeup For a Reality Dating Show

In a word: getting lipstick everywhere during those kissing scenes. "It's not really the smudging that I worry about — women are good about being aware of that — but it's how it transfers onto the other person's face," said Modica. "Either way, it's almost impossible to prevent. I always use a matte lipstick or stain, or just lip liner on its own, to keep it in place. It's the bane of my existence."

Hannah Brown's Go-to Products During the Show

"Because I worked with Hannah for about two months every day, twice a day, we had many many great products that we loved to use," said Modica. To name a few? She loved the Lime Crime Venus Pressed Powder Palette ($38), the Laura Mercier Magic Hour Face Illuminator Palette ($58), and the Hourglass Lip Treatment Oil ($49). "I could go on with some of her favourites, but the list would be too long."

Hannah Brown's Most Standout, Date-Night Look

While Modica can't give too much away, she did hint that there's one beauty look you won't be able to look away from — and it involves the Nars Cosmetics Pierce Powermatte Lip Luster ($21), jewellery from The Woods, a 1940s-inspired hairstyle, and a burgundy beaded dress. "You'll be able to see what happens when makeup, hair, and wardrobe come together," she said. Themed date party, anyone?
