26 Beauty Products Editors Will Take to the Grave

28/09/2018 - 04:00 PM

One of the biggest perks of being an editor is the almost endless supply of products to test, try, and experiment with. But that doesn't mean editors don't still buy beauty products with their own hard-earned cash. In fact, being constantly exposed to everything new and exciting only fuels the beauty product obsession. That said, just like everyone else, we've got our firm favourites, and we'll buy them over and over again.

Whether it's the lip balm we'll stay faithful to [1] until the day we die, or a cleanser that's stuck by us through acne and adulthood, read on to see which products made it to the list of four editor's absolute must-have beauty buys.

Aztec Secrets: Indian Healing Bentonite Clay

I will take Aztec Secrets: Indian Healing Bentonite Clay Mask [2] (£9) to the grave, and since a tub of the stuff lasts so long, it'll probably mean I only need about 4 in my lifetime. The cupboard classic has aided me in my poorest hours and my skin will always welcome it's healing effect. Though some might recommend to mix it with apple cider vinegar, my sensitive skin prefers water. — Lucy Kenny, assistant editor, social media and trending

Pixi Correction Concentrate Brightening, Peach

It might sound dramatic, but Pixi Correction Concentrate Brightening, Peach [3] (£14) has actually changed my life. If you suffer from blue-toned circles around your eyes, allow these before and after photos [4] prove why you need this in your routine ASAP. — Tori Crowther, assistant editor

Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentré Nourishing Moisturiser

Suitable for all skin types, the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré [5] (£20) is favoured by dermatologists and makeup artists alike. It provides the skin with all the nutrients and water it needs, and can be used as a primer, moisturiser, and makeup remover. I'm on my fifth tube, and I honestly can't get enough of it. — Morgane Le Caer, assistant editor

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-light Tinted SPF 50+

I'm pale, prone to redness, and very sensitive to the sun, so a good facial sunscreen is gold to me. I first picked La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra-light Tinted SPF 50+ [6] (£13, originally £17) up in France, and actually bought the tinted version by mistake, but now I wouldn't go back to anything else. It doesn't add colour to the face, it just soaks in without any white cast. It provides a high level of protection, and the texture is so much nicer than cheaper products. — Gemma Cartwright, senior editor

YSL Babydoll Mascara

I first discovered YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara [7] (£26) after a friend of mine accosted a girl in Harrods to ask where her amazing mascara came from. The original is brilliant, but the Babydoll version does away with the classic brush in favour of a plastic bristle one, and that makes it even better in my book. This is the mascara I wore on my wedding day, and it's the one I go back to again and again, no matter how much I try to wean myself onto more affordable options! — GC

Muji Face Blotting Paper

Aesthetically pleasing for my desk and my face are Muji Face Blotting Paper [8] (£2). As someone with an oily T-zone, once 5 p.m. hits, things can get a little shiny. One dab of these little beauties changes all of that. — LK

Sienna X Balance Body Wash

Not my most glamorous repurchase, but Sienna X Balance Body Wash [9] (£12) is the only soap that gets rid of my deodorant properly. I don't use this on my face, but it's my go-to body wash as it prolongs my fake tan and smells great. — TC

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Body Cream

I first bought Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Body Cream [10] (£10) on a whim, as I was intrigued by the idea of glycolic acid in a body lotion and I've had good experiences with Nip + Fab in general. It turned out to be one of my best finds ever, as it worked wonders on my keratosis pilaris [11]. Aside from this, it's affordable, it soaks in quickly, it has a lovely grapefruit scent that's not overpowering, and it's great for prepping before fake tan as it doesn't leave any sticky residue. When I thought it was going to be discontinued, I stockpiled about 6 tubes, but lucky for me it's still on the shelves! — GC

Lush "I Love Juicy" Shampoo

After many years on a quest to find shampoo that could tolerate my oily roots, I found Lush I Love Juicy Shampoo [12] (£6). Though it's a little more expensive that the hair care I used before, it lathers up easy and lasts, cleansing my locks better than any other. Plus, the fruity scent is damn good. — LK

Medik8 Breakout Defence and Age Repair

During a few months of bad hormonal breakouts, Medik8 Breakout Defence and Age Repair [13] (£35) absolutely saved my skin from becoming riddled with full-blown angry acne. This lightweight oil-free serum uses copper PCA and niacinamide to fight pollution, and reduce breakouts and scaring without clogging pores. — TC

Clarins Extra-Comfort Anti-Pollution Cleansing Cream

If I had to recommend one Clarins product, it would be the Extra-Comfort Anti-Pollution Cleansing Cream [14] (£25). Not only does it do a great job at cleansing the skin, but it's also incredibly gentle and indulgent, and the smell is so lovely that you won't want to rinse it off. — MLC

& Other Stories Topanga Waves Body Wash

& Other Stories Body Care [15] (£7) is seriously underrated, people! I urge you to get involved with the wash, lotion, hand cream, candles, and perfumes immediately. Not only is the range of scents simply delicious, but they are long-lasting, affordable, and aesthetically beautiful. I'm currently making my way through the body washes, housed in a very shower-friendly pump bottle. — LK

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

Dermalogica was the first skincare I ever used (hello, clear start acne range), and I've never looked back. The one product I will never stop using weekly is the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant [16] (£48), it effectively exfoliates the skin with its rice-baced enzyme powder, without being too harsh. It leaves my skin smooth, bright, and clear. Plus, the bottle lasts a very, very long time. — TC

Lush Sleepy Hand and Body Lotion

When I've had a long, stressful day, there are only two things that will calm me down: a nice bath, and the Lush Sleepy Hand and Body Lotion [17] (£14) body lotion. Made with a gentle oatmeal infusion, calming lavender, and sweet tonka, it has a gorgeous smell and a silky texture which I love slathering on my arms and chest. Bonus: it's even helped with my keratosis pilaris [18]! — MLC

Estée Lauder Idealist Pore Minimising Skin Refinisher

A flatmate from my university days introduced me to Estée Lauder Idealist Pore Minimising Skin Refinisher [19] (£47) as a surprise treatment for milia, but it took a little while before I could afford to buy it for myself. It's been reformulated since then, but it still does a great job of refining the skin and aiding cell turnover, which explains how it's so effective in slowly removing those pesky white "pearls". Unlike glycolic treatments that do a similar job, it feels less harsh and never stings. Plus, it makes a great base for makeup. — GC

Clarins Water Comfort One-Step Cleanser

If you're looking for an easy yet effective way to take your makeup off before cleansing, then the Bioderma Micellar Water [20] (£11) was made for you. I love how gentle and soothing it is on the skin, and its definitely become a staple in my beauty cabinet. — MLC

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel

When I was on the hunt for a new foundation, senior editor Gemma Cartwright pointed me towards Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel [21] (£22, originally £28). After whizzing through the first tube, I was hooked. I swear my skin gets better when I use this product. It's hydrating and doesn't have a heavy formula, but can still build for coverage and contains extra SPF. Let's hope more shades become readily available soon. — TC

Glossier Balm Dotcom, Original

Glossier's answer to lip balm, Balm Dotcom, Original [22] (£10) has me shelving all the big name balms I've used for years — it's that good. And while I have a taste for the Birthday flavoured balm, it's original that wins for me. What with its versatility (you can use on cuticles, elbows, eyelids, etc.), nourishing effect, and thick texture, I hope to be sporting this until 2080. — LK

Klorane Oat Milk Dry Shampoo

Looking for a new dry shampoo [23]? Well, look no further. Loved by Karl Lagerfeld, the Klorane Dry Shampoo [24] (£9) is one of my favourites on the market. Formulated with oat milk, it helps to regulate sebum production and revives your hair while being extra gentle and preserving the pigments in coloured hair. — MLC

Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm

Possibly the only cleanser ever that's made me look forward to taking my makeup off, Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm [25] (£47) is truly a wonder. The rich citrus-herbal scent is addictive, the texture is a dream, and it feels so rich and delicious on dry skin. This is my Winter skincare go-to, and when I'm feeling really indulgent, I'll do a good 10-minute facial massage with it. — GC

Bioderma Hydrabio H2O Micellar Water

If you're looking for an easy yet effective way to take your makeup off before cleansing, then the Bioderma Micellar Water [26] (£11) was made for you. I love how gentle and soothing it is on the skin, and its definitely become a staple in my beauty cabinet. — MLC

Bare Minerals Original Mineral Foundation

Mineral powder foundation may not be "trendy" any more, but I've yet to find anything that works so well on my skin as the Bare Minerals Original Foundation [27] (£22, originally £27), which I've been using for years. It covers without completely concealing my freckles, it stays put all day, and it has light-reflecting particles that make it look awesome in any light. I once had a cameraman ask me what I had on my face because he was so impressed with how it looked on film. — GC

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara

Like many people, I constantly try new mascaras in search for a cheaper option, but I always go back to Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara [28] (£24). The price is steep, but it isn't clumpy, its long-wearing but comes off easily at the end of the day, and it gives a true smokey eye look. — TC

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant

When assistant editor Morgane Le Caer made me buy Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant [29] (£28) for my horribly dry lips, she answered all my prayers. It does exactly what is promises. I now carry it in my handbag at all times for lips, cuticles, and sometimes even a cheeky glossy eyelid. — TC

Lush Ro's Argan Body Conditioner

I'm really lazy about moisturising, but Lush Ro's Argan Body Conditioner [30] (£17) makes it super quick and easy. You apply it to your skin in the same way you apply conditioner to your hair: a quick massage, let it soak in for a few seconds, then rinse. On top of being easy to use, it smells absolutely divine. A tip for Lush fans: at Christmas, they make a Snow Fairy version of this, and it's just as delicious! — GC

Dior Addict Lipstick

I'm a self-confessed lipstick hoarder, but the one I always go back to is my Dior Addict lipstick [31] (£29). It has a beautifully shiny finish, feels like a lip balm, and don't even get me started on that gorgeous packaging. — MLC
