One might think that beauty rituals take a back seat when it comes to professional sports. For five tennis players in the Women's Tennis Association, that isn't the case. Makeup, skin care, and hair care still play a big role in their day-to-day — with some aspects putting them in the headspace to play their best match.

This year, as the players of the Women's Tennis Association team up with MoroccanOil for their best match-day hair, we've gotten an inside look on their beauty routines. Read on to learn more about what role beauty plays in the lives of four players, including what they do to decompress on the evening before a match, the hairstyles they'll never wear on game-day, their all-time favourite skin care products, and more.

Karolina Pliskova

On Wearing Makeup During a Workout
"I am a strong believer that women look beautiful without any makeup. I never wear makeup on the tennis court or to the gym."

On Her Match Day Hairstyle
"[My beauty routine] doesn't change that much because even for practice I always have to have the perfect hair bun without any mistakes. Of course for the match I am an extra perfectionist."

On Sweat-Proofing Her Hairstyle
Pliskova prefers to wear a bun or a ponytail. "I don't like when hair is moving so it has to be tight with hair in the right place," she said. "I can't get distracted by my hair moving when I play. I was introduced to Moroccanoil at one of the photoshoots for WTA and they have really nice products which help me keep my bun perfect and at the same time keeping my hair hydrated and smelling really nice."

Heather Watson

On Her Everyday Beauty Routine
"My normal beauty regimen doesn't consist of much on the days that I have practice or training," she said. "But the most important thing for me is to wear sunscreen because we're always in the sun and that's the number one cause of ageing." She tries to use an SPF of at least 50 for when she's in the sun for hours and hours a day. On Slicking Her Hair Back Before A Match "I use hair oil usually because I have lots of like baby hairs and I like to slick it all back."

On Her Post-Match Ritual
For Watson, it's all about glowing skin after a match. "I'll put on some Nars Sheer Glow Foundation, do my eyebrows and that's pretty much it," she said. "I like to keep it simple. I usually wear lashes, so I don't need mascara."

Danielle Collins

On How She Tames Hair the Night Before
"Sometimes for me it's hard to get my hair to a manageable point where I can get it back into a ponytail and up in a braid," she said, "So, I usually use the Moroccanoil Treatment (£13). I run it through the roots down to the ends of my hair, brush it out, put it up in a high ponytail and then I put in a basic braid. I also spray the braid with hairspray few times as I go through it so that it holds while I'm on the court, otherwise it will expand and get poofy."

On Her Pre-Match Indulgence
"I love to take Epsom salt baths," she said. "Ever since I was little whenever I was tired after training, my parents would get me salts and I would get in the bath at home and just sit in there for an hour sometimes. That's actually one of my favourite past times."

Amanda Anisimova

On Her Everyday Routine
"I use Lumière de Vie Facial Cleanser, Mario Badescu moisturiser (£25) and then sometimes I'll do my eyebrows and put on a tinted moisturiser. And I love scented lotions before bed that help me sleep." For Anisimova, not much changes on game day. "It's just whether I have time to do my brows or not," she said.

On the Mask She Uses The Evening Before a Match"I love doing Origins face masks the night before and just keeping my face cleansed. I [also] love face washes and just feeling clean."

On The Hairstyle She Won't Wear On the Day of a Match "I always wear my hair in a braid. Funnily enough, when I played Petra Kvitova in Australia my hair was super curly and I liked it, so I left it without a braid and everyone kept telling me I lost because of that," she laughed. "So I'm probably going to keep braiding it."
