These Editors Try Beauty Products For a Living, and Here's What They're Loving For August

31/08/2018 - 07:35 AM

When it comes to beauty, Summer is all about sunscreen, coconut scents, and all the illuminating products we can get our hands on . . . and that's exactly what our editors are loving for August.

We're moving away from drying matte lips and onto more forgiving demi mattes, travel mini sets are giving us heart eyes, and we tried eyeliner in a way we guarantee you've never seen before. Take it from us, August is exciting when it comes to beauty products. We've been testing and trailing all the newness, 16 to be exact, so you can get ahead of the launches.

Read on to see which beauty products our four editors can't put down.

Bar of Gold Charlotte Tilbury Highlighter

If I had to choose between my boyfriend and this Bar of Gold Charlotte Tilbury Highlighter [2] (£49), we've got ourselves a contest — it's that good. And he reads Stoicism and makes me fresh coffee. Why is my boyfriend in danger? This palette incorporates a trio of gorgeous, flattering shades, offering buildable highlight that is more ethereal than blinding. — Lucy Kenny, assistant editor

Kat Von D Lash Liner Liquid Eyeliner

Liquid Eyeliner for your lash line: "no way," I hear you say — "yes way," I reply. Kat Von D did it, and you won't find me using regular eyeliner for my waterline anymore. It sounds scary, but promise it's not. The sponge applicator applies just the right amount of product and dries instantly to give an intense look. Apply Kat Von D Lash Liner Liquid Eyeliner [3] (£17) to your upper waterline, and your lashes will have never looked so full. If it's anything like the brands Tattoo liner, we'll trust it's staying power [4].

Tip: dab, don't drag for best results. — Tori Crowther, assistant editor

Real Techniques Insta Pop Cheek Brush

I'll happily admit that I don't like to spend too much money on my makeup brushes — but when you have brands such as Real Techniques, why would you? The Insta Pop Cheek Brush [5] (£9) is one of the brand's newest launches, and I couldn't live without it. It's incredibly soft, picks up the perfect amount of pigment, and makes any blush application as easy as one, two, three. — Morgane Le Caer, assistant editor

Yope Coconut and Sea Salt Natural Shower Gel

I promise not all my picks this month are coconut, but can you blame me for being in full-on holiday mode? The Yope Coconut and Sea Salt Natural Shower Gel [6] (£5), a new launch from one of my favourite natural brands, evokes Caribbean beaches and salty hair. It's almost worth getting up early for. — Gemma Cartwright, senior editor

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Defense Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30

I'm devoted to BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel [7] so it was only right that I loved the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Defense Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 [8] (£35). It protects against blue light, pollution and sun damage. However, it does leave my complexion slightly more pale than normal, which is something to consider before trying. — TC

Yes to Coconut 2-in-1 Scrub and Cleanser Stick

The Yes to Coconut 2-in-1 Scrub and Cleanser Stick [9] (£10) is so great for travel as it does the job of two products, an oily cleanser and a coffee scrub. It can be rinsed off with water, so there's no need for muslin cloths and flannels. Oh, and did I mention it smells delicious, too? — GC

Flo Organic Tampons

Housed in an ice cream tub, Flo Organic Tampons [10] (£4) understand your time-of-the-month cravings. And what lives inside is even better. These Flo Organic Tampons are free from synthetic fibres, chemical residues, pesticides, chlorine bleach, and fragrances, leaving you with a happy, chemical-free vagina. — LK

Barbara Sturm Mini Drops Discovery Set

If you find yourself with a little more pocket money to spend this month, I highly recommend you try out Barbara Sturm. The brand, loved by celebrities [11], has released a Mini Drops Discovery Set [12] (£105) so you can try before you invest in the cult favourite serums. But be warned: from my experience, once you've tried a Barbara Sturm product, you'll be hooked. — TC

Buxom Power Plump Lip Balm

I find red lips effort. I always want a red lip but think "can I be bothered with the upkeep?" and nine times out of 10, the answer is no. Until I found Buxom Power Plump Lip Balm in Fiery [13] (£15), which gives an incredible red lip shade (the colour payoff is even better than the swatches) with a balmy finish. Oh, and it plumps. Winning! — TC

Bondi Sands SPF 50+ Sunscreen Lotion

One of my favourite fake tan brands has finally branched out into sun protection, and I'm so happy that Bondi Sands went in big, with competitively priced, high factor protection that smells like a piña colada. I'll be spritzing Bondi Sands SPF 50+ Sunscreen Lotion [14] (£12) on all Summer and faking my golden glow instead. — GC

Glossier Mini Milky Jelly Cleanser

I'm a sucker for Glossier's jelly cleanser, and the new Glossier Mini Milky Jelly Cleanser [15] (£8) will forever have a place in my festival bag! — LK

NYX Lip Lingerie Shimmer in Honeymoon

NYX has given its famous Lip Lingerie a makeover with three new formulas: Shimmer, Gloss, and Glitter. I'm living out my '90s dreams with the gorgeous NYX Lip Lingerie Shimmer in Honeymoon [16] (£7) neutral shimmers, which remind me of every lip product I snuck to school when I was 14! — GC

My Mood I’m Like 104% Tired Switch Off Sleep Spray

My neighbours can probably confirm by my snoring that this heavenly My Mood I'm Like 104% Tired Switch Off Sleep Spray [17] (£5) has me sleeping like a baby. Its lavender, poppyseed, and valerian oil extracts act as the perfect calming chill pill. — LK

Invisibobble Sprunchie

Scrunchies are back, people [18]. I, for one, am ecstatic and I just found the perfect one. Forget the days when pretty scrunchies would fall out of your hair in 0.3 seconds, because invisibobble created their own, with grip. Invisibobble Sprunchie [19] (£6) looks like a normal scrunchie but has spiral rings inside, which makes sure it grips to the hair and stays in place. I'm not messing when I say this hasn't left my wrist in an entire month. — TC

Huda Beauty Demi Matte Cream Lipsticks

Huda's done it again with this new release, a hybrid matte-cream lipstick that's superpigmented but lacks the chalkiness of some liquid lip colours. I love the Huda Beauty Demi Matte Cream Lipstick [20] (£18) shade "mogul", a brownish pink. — GC

Buxom Full-On Lip Polish

My handbag is never without a lip-plumping gloss, and this Buxom Full-On Lip Polish [21] (£15) is challenging all the ones that have stood there before. There is serious plumping potential here, the colour selection is di-vine, and they hang around on your pout for a solid amount of time. I'm sold. — LK
