Dermatologists Reveal the Products That Give Them Their Summer Glow

25/07/2019 - 10:30 PM

During the Summer, when many of us like to show off a little more skin, we'd prefer if our complexions looked healthy and glowing. Luckily for us, it turns out doctors want to glow, too, and have some excellent tips to do so. We consulted board-certified dermatologists Marnie Nussbaum [1], Debra Jaliman [2], and Dhaval Bhanusali [3], M.D., to find out what products they use (besides plenty of sunscreen [4], of course) to look luminous from head to toe all season long.

From glycolic acid [5] peels to skin cleansing devices [6], keep reading to find out these dermatologists' favourite products for a Summer glow.

Kiehl's Since 1851 Creme de Corps

"Don't forget body moisturiser," Dr. Nussbaum said. "Dry skin equals dull skin. Kiehl's Since 1851 Creme de Corps [7] ($18) is a great silky, nongreasy lotion that absorbs easily into the skin. It contains a blend of hydrating ingredients like cocoa butter and sesame oil to soften skin, while the plant-derived squalane helps to restore the skin's natural moisture balance."

Vita Liberata Body Blur Instant HD Skin Finish

"One of my favourites in the Summer (and year round) is Vita Liberata Body Blur Instant HD Skin Finish [8] ($45)," Dr. Jaliman said. "It's very similar to a BB cream, but you can use it all over your body and face if you wish. It covers imperfections and smooths the skin's appearance. It leaves your skin with a silky, photo-ready finish."

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel

"I usually recommend glycolic acid pads like the Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel [9] ($88) to be used once a week at night to gently chemically exfoliate the skin for a brighter complexion," Dr. Nussbaum said. "Glycolic acid also decreases the ageing process. Do not overexfoliate as it can cause redness and inflammation as well as microtears in the skin."

Clarisonic Mia Prima Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush

Dr. Bhanusali kicks up his brush use from weekly to two to three times a week over the Summer. "[It] helps with the oil and [keeps] pores cleansed and tight," he said. He likes the Clarisonic Mia Prima Sonic Facial Cleansing Brush [10] ($99).

Foreo Luna 3 For Normal Skin

"I really love the Foreo Luna 3 For Normal Skin [11] ($199)," Dr. Jaliman said. "It's very effective, and it really gets your skin clean. It helps with exfoliation of the skin, which means getting rid of dry, flaky skin, which also brightens. The massageing aspect helps to promote circulation in your face and helps in achieving that glow, too."

Skinceuticals C E Ferulic

"Skinceuticals C E Ferulic [12] ($129) is a must have for my morning skincare routine," Dr. Nussbaum said. "It contains powerhouse antioxidants like vitamin C + E that brighten the skin and neutralise free radicals induced by environmental stressors like UVA/UVB rays, which can accelerate skin ageing. The sun decreases elastin and collagen, which increases skin laxity. Therefore, vitamin C will truly tighten and brighten the skin."

Fast Beauty Co. Down & Dirty Mud Mask With Charcoal & Rosemary

"During Summer, I tend to recommend a 'less is more' approach since there is a higher chance of clogged pores with too many products," Dr. Bhanusali said. "I tend to mix in light acids like glycolic or salicylic acid (which is great for controlling oil) a bit more and look more at 'icing on the cake' products like sheet masks or mud masks, like the Fast Beauty Co. Down & Dirty Mud Mask With Charcoal & Rosemary [13] ($8), which I helped to formulate."

Olay Moisture Ribbons Body Wash

"I love the Olay Moisture Ribbons Body Wash [14] ($5), which gently cleanses but also has a moisturiser in the formula containing pro-glycerin that pulls moisture into the epidermis," said Dr. Nussbaum, who is a spokesperson for the brand. "It provides long-lasting moisture and keeps my skin hydrated and supple."
