How the Beauty Looks at the MTV Movie & TV Awards Have Changed

24/06/2018 - 05:45 PM

In honour of this year's MTV Movie & TV Awards, let's take a look back at red carpets of yore. Because while beauty trends come and go, Getty Images is forever. So we've found 30 celebrity hair and makeup looks that are bound to make you nostalgic for the days of chunky headbands, dramatic side parts, and sticky lip gloss. (And the good news is, all three of those things are trending again! [1])

2008: Christina Aguilera

These days, Christina Aguilera [3] has undergone a major make-under [4], but 10 years ago, she was all about vintage glam with her platinum bangs, geometric cat eye, and flash of bronzer.

2008: Ashlee Simpson

A pregnant Ashlee Simpson [5] showed us all what a maternity glow looks like, with a pop-punk edge. It involved a dramatic side part and jet-black eyeliner.

2008: Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton [6] did as Paris Hilton does: wore her hair in a long, wavy blowout, sprinkled on some glitter pink eye shadow, and paired it all with a rosy pink gloss.

2008: Lindsay Lohan

This was the year of stick-straight hair, but Lindsay Lohan [7] went against trend with va-va-voom curls.

2008: Anne Hathaway

This could honestly be a shot from the current Ocean's 8 press tour, but instead it is visual proof that Anne Hathaway [8] has not aged in 10 years.

2008: Megan Fox

This was Megan Fox [9]'s year, and she punctuated it at the awards with her go-to look: long, layered dark chocolate hair, cherry red lipstick, and a pretty serious tan.

2008: Ellen Page

Hot off the heels of Juno's massive success, Ellen Page opted for no-makeup makeup long before that was a real thing.

2008: Emma Stone

We would definitely need to ask Emma Stone [10] for her ID back in 2008. The then-19-year-old looked fresh-faced with a deep side part, subtle bronzer, and a gold headband.

2008: Anna Faris

Anna Faris [11] has kept her signature curtain fringe for most of her career, and the fringe in 2008 was in full force.

2008: Katharine McPhee

The singer and American Idol alum could have rolled up to this year's Met Gala red carpet [12] with her ethereal hair and cherubic makeup, but instead, this is a picture of her doing that timeless boho thing really, really well a decade ago.

2008: Sarah Jessica Parker

Mr. Big, meet Ms. Parker's bigger hair. Sarah Jessica Parker [13]'s tousled blowout almost took flight on the red carpet.

2008: Jennifer Hudson

"And I am telling you, I'm not going" to stop admiring Jennifer Hudson [14]'s blunt bob, piecey bangs, and inner-eyelid highlighter.

2008: Heidi Montag

The Hills are alive with the sound of music, as was this late-aughts glam perfection.

2008: Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad [15]'s thick black eyeliner and mascara may not have survived reality-show ugly-crying, but they looked damn good here.

2008: Whitney Port

Whitney Port [16]'s bouncy curls were worthy of their own The Hills spinoff.

2008: Kristen Stewart

Now, Kristen Stewart [17] pushes the envelope on the red carpet, opting for edgy looks such as pearl-lined eye shadow [18] and updos secured by approximately 400 bobby pins [19], but back in 2008, she was just your average vampire-loving girl-next-door from Forks, WA.

2003: Hilary Duff

Disney's breakout star Hilary Duff [20] let her blonde hair fall down and wake (every teenager's) dreams.

2003: Kirsten Dunst

Of course the early-aughts' coolest cool girl's throwback beauty look would still be chic as hell 15 years later.

2003: Victoria and David Beckham

Posh Spice and the man-bun pioneer David Beckham [21] gave denim-clad Justin Timberlake [22] and Britney Spears [23] a run for their money with these matchy-matchy white outfits and coordinating tans.

2003: Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth [24]'s upswept chignon gave us a full view of her skinny brows — a major trend of yore. What we're sure she wouldn't do for a time machine that would allow her to slip some Boy Brow into her going-out clutch.

2003: Jennifer Garner

Here's a picture of Jennifer Garner [25] wearing berry-red lipstick one year before the release of 13 Going on 30 [26], and it's pretty sweet.

2003: Tara Reid

The pulled-back pompadour! The contrasting roots! The sticky gloss! Tara Reid [27]'s look had every 2000s trend wrapped in one.

2003: Beyoncé

This superindie singer named Beyoncé showed up to the 2003 MTV Music Awards looking like a total goddess, and then we never saw her again. Just kidding — 21-year-old Bey somehow made our college-exam-day messy ponytail look extra chic, with the help of a little red blush and a lot of thick eyeliner.

2003: Kate Hudson

This was the year that pop culture peaked with the release of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The film's star opted for a fairly timeless beachy vibe that wouldn't look out of place in 2008.

2003: Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson [28] rocked two of 2003's biggest accessories: dangling earrings and face-framing hair wisps.
