Birkenstock, the Grandma sandal-turned-fashun girl Summer staple, now has a skincare line to confuse our relationship with the brand even more. Yup, the shoe line is now doing skincare, or as Birkenstock calls it, Natural Care. This might seem a little random, until you learn about the line's ingredients and eco-friendly focus. So, here's what you need to know about the brand's venture from sandals to skincare.
As for the idea behind delving into skincare, CEO Oliver Reichert said, "While we were doing our research regarding a healthy product concept in the skincare segment, we realised that scientists in the cosmetics industry had discovered the highly effective anti-ageing effect of suberin, a remarkable substance which is contained in cork oak extract." Suberin is known for its lifting, tightening, and general anti-ageing properties, which is why Birkenstock decided to take their expertise of cork oak into skincare.
The 28-piece collection has six categories: Natural Moisture (freshness, elasticity, and resilience), Natural Comfort (freshness, hydration, and intensive care), Natural Shapes (energising and moisturising), Natural Freshness (well, it's fresh), Natural Age Control (smoothing, lifting, and youthful freshness), and Natural Man (moisturising and revitalising power). Each product is free of parabens, synthetic fragrances, and silicone, and uses certified natural ingredients, as well as being eco-friendly with sustainable packaging like cork.
The Natural Comfort collection will launch this Fall, so get ready to have a face as comfortable as your feet!
