Chanel's PFW Runway Gives Us a Reason to Doll Up For the Supermarket
Chanel's Paris Fall 2014 Fashion Week show was not for the all-black-loving, monochromatic makeup maven. The vibrant set featured a to-scale supermarket with Chanel-branded products, and with so many distractions, it would have been easy for Karl Lagerfeld to go with a laid-back beauty look. But that just wasn't the case: the hair and makeup featured a dazzling rainbow of hues.
Well-known models, including Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne, wore massive ponytails adorned with macramé dreadlocks and layers of crimped hair. Lead hairstylist Sam McKnight pulled strands sleek before cascading into the statement-making tails.
The makeup by Peter Phillips matched the neons of the bottles of pop on the shelves. What really caught our attention were the cat eyes: the bright hues extended to just the center of the eye. There they were met with a shimmering shadow, a mix of Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eye Shadow ($36) in Epatant and Fantasme. Lashes were curled with Chanel Recourbe Cils De Chanel Precision Eyelash Curler ($34) but left bare.
The festive look added to the upbeat vibe of the show, where celebrities like Rihanna and model Joan Smalls got in on the catwalk fun by hopping into shopping carts. And once again, we escaped into the fantasy land of beauty . . .
