Why Chloe Kim Didn't Cry While Winning Gold: "I Worked So Hard on My Eyeliner"

13/02/2018 - 08:59 PM

Need more proof that Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim is the coolest 17 year old around? Well, here it is. The morning after she won a gold medal for the women's halfpipe (in between tweeting about wanting ice cream [1] . . . ah, youth), Chloe sat down with NBC News' Today Show to discuss the monumental 24 hours she'd just had.

After Savannah Guthrie asked Chloe [2] about what it was like to stand on the podium as the National Anthem played, Chloe answered with poise beyond her years. "I was trying so hard to hold the tears back, 'cause I was like, I can't cry right now, I can't do this, I worked so hard on my eyeliner." GIRL, SAME.

Chloe went on to say, "It's such an honor to just represent the U.S. in the country where my parents immigrated from. Just this whole process has been amazing, and this journey has been so fun and full of so many memories that I will hold on to for the rest of my life."

To recap, Chloe's father Kim Jong-jin emigrated from South Korea to California in 1982. When Chloe was 8, Kim quit his engineering job to support his daughter's budding snowboarding career. He's called Chloe his "American dream," [3] and I'm not crying, you're crying.
