Confession time: Despite my Beauty Editor disguise, somewhere deep down, there is still a sun worshipper just waiting to get out. I know, I know... it's terrible for the skin and I lecture everyone else about sitting in the shade and wearing a sun hat, but the girl just can't help it! To counteract my bad habit I am healthily obsessive about wearing sunscreen, though.
From the high protection, facial sunscreens, to a daily hand lotion with SPF, it's all about protection and prevention. Ok so I sunbathe, but I never, ever burn. My latest obsession is Dermalogica's Multivitamin Bodyblock, (£21). It has an SPF20, which is high enough for the body, as long as you're not in the subtropics.
The bodyblock has the most gorgeously, more-ish consistency, like a creamy, super-rich body lotion. It absorbs easily and leaves a flattering sheen on the skin, which makes you look instantly healthier and gleaming. It smells faintly of liquorice, which I admit might not be to everyone's tastes, but I don't even like eating the stuff and I still adore the smell. For why I give this top marks, just read more
It contains skin-smoothing shea butter and oil of evening primrose, which relieve dryness and nourish the skin – improving the texture over time. Dermalogica's bodyblock can also be used as a daily body lotion, for year-round protection against sun damage, though I tend to only use it like that on holiday.
Provitamin B5, helps the skin recover from previous sun damage, whilst vitamins A, C and E help to fight free radicals and prevent premature aging. There's also no artificial fragrance or colour, so it's great for sensitive skin, and is also fine for using on the face, though personally I'd always go for a specific facial sunscreen instead.
Despite the glowy, velvety sheen it leaves on your skin, the bodyblock is non-greasy and not at all sticky. Even sand won't stick to your skin and you can pretty much get dressed as soon as you've applied it. Top marks.
