4 Editors Share Their Favourite Lipsticks of All Time

30/12/2018 - 03:20 PM

Remember the first luxury lipstick [1] you bought that made you feel like an adult? Or the shades you experimented with at University? Even the nostalgic Rimmel lipstick [2] smell that to the day takes you straight back to high school? Lipstick is more than just lipstick. [3] It's memories, confidence, and fun. It's the one beauty product nearly everyone has more than one of; some people even keep multiple shades in their handbags. But when it comes to all-time favourites, it can be very, very hard to decide which one takes top spot.

But we took on the challenge. Here, four editors share the one lipstick that's their all-time favourite, be it due to pigment, application, or something else. If you want to find a new colour or see what our editors are dedicated to, keep reading for our unrivalled faves.

Lord & Berry Timeless Liquid Lipstick in Bold Red

"I have to admit: although I'm a huge beauty enthusiast, I'm more of an eye-makeup girl than a lipstick one. I find lipstick to be quite a lot of effort and feel like I can experiment more with eye makeup. But having said that, applying a lipstick on the few occasions I do in the week makes it feel even more exciting. My all-time favourite everyday lipstick is a limited-edition MAC (why do they do this to us?!) called 'Alessandra', because it's a 'my lips but better' situation and doesn't require much upkeep throughout the day. However, there is one other lipstick that is my 'perfect red': Lord & Berry Timeless Liquid Lipstick in Bold Red [5] (£17).

"It is the perfect red for my skin tone, has a rich pigment, and isn't too drying for a liquid lipstick. Every time I wear this, it feels like a special occasion, which no other lipstick has yet to achieve." — Tori Crowther, assistant editor

Dior Addict Lipstick

"Lip products have always been my thing. They are the beauty item that I love the most, and I have owned my fair share over the years. However, there's one particular type that I always go back to: the Dior Addict Lipstick [6] (£29). Creamy, moisturising, and pigmented, it applies like a lipstick, feels like a lip balm, and always looks incredible. The colour range is varied, and I love to tap it on my lips for a subtle hint of colour. Yes, it's pricey, but trust me when I say that it's totally worth it. And don't even get me started on the gorgeous packaging." — Morgane Le Caer, assistant editor

MAC Matte Lipstick in Lady Danger

"'When I die, bury me with a tube of MAC Lady Danger [7] (£17.50),' I once posted on Instagram alongside a picture of me wearing nothing but my trusty red lipstick and a sweep of mascara. I'm a big believer in the power of a classic red, and of all the ones I've tried (and trust me, there have been a lot), Lady Danger is still the one I reach for above all others if I'm having a confidence crisis. It's a really rich orange-red, which isn't usually recommended for pink-toned skin like mine, but this lipstick just pops like no other. MAC also has the texture and staying power nailed. Though this won't last all day like a liquid lipstick, it also doesn't give you Sahara Desert lips like they so often do. I'm happy to top up a few times for the sake of a creamier formula!" — Gemma Cartwright, senior editor

Julep It's Whipped Matte Lip Mousse in XOXO

"This is by far my favourite 'oh, that's cute' grab from the beauty cupboard. And since discovering it, this vibrant and now-signature Julep It's Whipped Matte Lip Mousse in XOXO [8] (£14) gets added to my shopping list as soon as it starts to run low. The formula glides on silky smooth, is matte without being drying, and packs a serious punch when it comes to pigment. In fact, it transforms me back to art class as if I'm painting my lips with a mousse-like acrylic. If you have an eye for colour, this fuchsia formula belongs on your lips." — Lucy Kenny, assistant editor
