We wouldn't blame you if you overlooked Emma Stone's (pristine) Oscars manicure. After all, girlfriend was rocking a pretty enviable glow that night, which included strawberry-pink lipstick, blush, eye shadow, and, oh yeah, the debut of a brand spankin' new Kiehl's moisturiser. But indulge us for a minute and take a gander at a zoomed-in photo of her nails.

If that colour looks familiar, it's probably because it's one of the most beloved manicure shades of all time. In fact, we dare you to find a beauty junkie who hasn't owned at least one bottle of Essie Ballet Slippers (£8) in their time. As Emma's manicurist Emi Kudo confirmed in a press release, Emma opted for this "classy, glamorous nail to offset her androgynous look" of a maroon Louis Vuitton pantsuit.

So where does the queen come in? Nail aficionados might know where this is going. Ballet Slippers is a perennial favourite for her majesty, which makes sense, since she played a role in inventing it! Yep, the queen can add "nail polish influencer" to her already impressive CV, because back in 1989, her hairdresser wrote a letter to brand founder Essie Weingarten calling for the creation of a bespoke, pale pink shade.

Some British tabloids have surmised that the queen opts for this subdued shade to adhere to her self-enforced "no coloured manicures on royals" rule. However, there's no official word stating that's palace protocol, so it's definitely a bit of speculation.

Perhaps the queen just enjoys this shade because it offsets her many vibrant, dynamically coloured outfits. As Emma showed at the Oscars, it certainly complements a bold hue.
