Last night, I had a few of my friends over and I set up an at-home spa where we did facials and hand treatments using products that I've been waiting to test for ages. We cleansed, toned and moisturised to our hearts content, but overall, the most popular and exciting product we used was ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment by Kate Somerville (£78). We each had different experiences with the same product, and I'm happy to report them all to you.
First up is my pal with normal skin who thought it instantly brightened and smoothed out her face.
Next, my buddy with combination skin loved the slight tingling sensation from the fruit enzymes and lactic acid (she could really tell it was working) and thought her face looked glowy and alive.
As for me, I didn't fall in love until about 20 minutes later. I have thin, reactive, sensitive skin and found the waiting (you apply a thin layer and let it sit for 30 seconds) to be torture. My skin was tingling and itching and whilst, I loved the smell, I couldn't wait to rinse.
After I patted my face dry, it was red around my nose and cheeks. However, once it calmed down (apparently the magic ingredient is the bromelain in the papaya extract which helps increase cell turnover by stimulating circulation), my skin was exceptionally radiant, clear and even! I guess this goes to show that it really can be used on all skin types. We all raved about the cinamonny smell and how incredibly smooth and awake our skin looked afterwards.
The lactic acid in the formula helps to hydrate the skin while exfoliating and is a great alternative to glycolic acid (another AHA) that can irritate sensitive skin. It's no wonder why celebrities like Paris Hilton, Jessica Alba, Eva Mendes and Kate Beckinsale swear by ExfoliKate. I just wish it wasn't so darn expensive. What's your favourite exfoliator?
