Want something more cutting edge? Keep the fringe soft, but try a fringe "that either fall right at the eyebrows for those who have more depth to their foreheads or go a bit above for those who have smaller foreheads," said Nicole Leal, master stylist at Nine Zero One salon.

The biggest haircut of 2018 (and 2017, and 2016 . . .) was indubitably the "lob," but the same style can look totally different in 2019 with blunt ends or without the layers. "To make the cut on-trend for the new year, it should be straighter and sleeker," said Heaps. "The look is more one-length on the ends." Leal echoed this sentiment, and added that this modern iteration swaps out texture for smoother effect or severed angle.

Even short haircuts need to grow up. "You will be seeing an updated version of the pixie full of texture," said Heaps. "It is a beautiful, roughed-up style with dimension and movement. For this cut, you want more length on the sides and back. This shagginess is created by having hair longer than a traditional pixie."

Hair-down-to-there has been grazing the rear ends of celebs like J. Lo and Ariana Grande for the last few years, but longer-than-usual ends are going to make a huge appearance on everyone in 2019. Few people are lucky enough to to be able to get this look naturally (even with all the magical hair growth potions out there), but a good salon can source you some extralong extensions. "Longer hair will be a lot more manageable because it's going to be about effortless texture instead of structured waves," said Leal. " It's also great for accessorising with hair clips and hats."
