How To Fake Fuller Hair

4 Tips to Fake Fuller, Healthier Hair

Voluminous, healthy hair may be your goal, but for many of us, Farrah Fawcett-like strands don't come naturally. It turns out, getting bigger hair doesn't require too much teasing, or even Bumpits. Celebrity stylist Ben Skervin, who has worked with stars such as Keira Knightley and Katy Perry, reveals four easy ways to create the illusion of thicker strands.

1. Avoid piecey fringe: Michelle Obama is a prime example of how to fake a fuller fringe. "She's added more hair into the fringe, so it's heavier than when she first got it done," Skervin says. "I think bangs have a tendency to look like a three-prong thing, so if you're thinking about blunt bangs, go heavy or go home."

2. Put rollers in it: If you're getting ready to go out in the evening, Skervin recommends setting your entire head of hair in four or five jumbo heated rollers. "Leave them while they cool down, do your makeup, run your fingers through it, and your good to go," Skervin says.

3. Use more mousse: For an instant root lift, apply a foaming mousse to the roots only and blow-dry upside down. Finish with a round brush for a smooth look.

4. Go for graduation: If you have a finer hair type, stay away from a cut filled with layers. Instead, ask for a graduated style. "A little bit of graduation is good because it helps to add thickness, whereas layering takes the thickness out," Skervin explains. "As opposed to it being a triangle, the graduation just helps to give a fuller edge to it."
