But prepare to add the musician to your rotation of beauty influencers, because according to his Instagram story, Mayer is getting into the world of makeup. He filmed his very own smokey eye tutorial for followers using a Chanel eyeshadow quad [4] (£44), and it . . . wasn't too bad, actually?

Sure, Mayer's application was a little heavy-handed — blend, blend, blend! — and his assertion that you don't need makeup brushes might cause makeup junkies to cringe a bit, but overall the finished look is surprisingly pleasant. For a first smokey eye attempt by somebody who doesn't typically rock dramatic shadow, we're impressed! And when the musician shared a "makeup free selfie" after all was said and done, he certainly made us laugh.
