Unicorn

"A few years ago, I waited until the last minute for a costume and ended up with only a unicorn horn. So I decided to work with what I had: I took out all my pearlescent eye shadows and highlighters, and drew a very shimmery rainbow across my face to complete the look. The rainbow helped bring my basic costume to the next level." — Sarah Siegel, assistant editor, beauty and shop

Deer

"Last-minute Halloween [4] plans two years ago had a friend and I scrambling for ideas before we left for a party. Thanks to POPSUGAR's endless and easy to create makeup ideas, I settled on a Halloween favourite at the time: a deer. All I needed was some heavy contour, eyeliner, lashes, and white face paint, and I was good to go. My bestie and I ended up doing our makeup, eating takeout in bed, and never actually going out, because isn't that what Halloween is all about after all?" — Tori Crowther, assistant editor, UK

Skeleton

"Forgive the blurriness of this photo — this was back when film cameras were cool. One Halloween [5] in college, there was a going out top I really wanted to wear that had a see-through strip down the middle. The problem was that I didn't know what I actually wanted to be while wearing it. The shirt was all-black, so the typical thing to do would just slap on cat ears and call it a day, but as previously mentioned, I was too cool. Instead, I sat very still with my neck back while my skilled friend used a Too Faced eye shadow palette to paint on a skeleton neck. This idea is great for someone who has a cute outfit planned that doesn't immediately call to mind any obvious costume. Even if you're not as talented as my friend (who did an excellent skull neck), it's easy to phone-in stripes of white eye shadow in a bone formation." — Alaina Demopoulos, beauty writer
