Proof That Maddie Ziegler Is the Beauty Inspiration I Need Right Now

Maddie Ziegler has shortly gone from reality TV star to one of the most important teenagers in Hollywood (no, really, Time magazine named her one of the most influential teens three years in a row). Forget triple threat, Ziegler dances, acts, does voiceover, models, and writes — the Pennsylvania native's memoir The Maddie Diaries made the New York Times Best Sellers list — all while racking up 13 million Instagram followers in the process. And we're only going to see more of her: the 16-year-old was recently cast as a member of the Jets in Steven Spielberg's upcoming remake of West Side Story.

As her fame has grown, so has her tendency to try unexpected makeup and hair looks. A few minutes scrolling through makeup artist Tonya Brewer's Instagram feed (who works regularly with Ziegler) and you'll find a treasure trove of bright, colourful makeup ideas that are also surprisingly wearable.

Ziegler is no stranger to bold beauty looks. As a dancer on the competition circuit, she's played with her hair and makeup for her performances from a very young age; while her collaboration with Sia has allowed the star to go wild with bold, blunt wigs and rainbow-coloured face paint. Her makeup and hair looks that we rounded up below, however, aren't meant for the stage or for an interpretive dance, but rather to serve as inspiration so you can seriously jazz up your beauty routine this summer.

Maddie Ziegler's Neon Orange Smoke

Anyone who's ever said orange eye shadow isn't wearable hasn't see what Brewer's magic hands have created on Ziegler here. Straight on, it looks like a halo of traffic-cone orange around her eyes. Scroll right and you'll see it's really opaque neon liner that's been traced along her lower lashes and the outer half of her top lashes, then buffed up onto her lids creating a very faint wash. The varying levels of dimensions paired with loads of black mascara are the secrets to pulling off this tricky hue.

Sweet pastels take on an edge when dotted artfully around the eyes. To recreate the "pastel fantasy," as Brewer described it, try Dior's On Stage Liners (£27).

Now, if you're someone who's mastered your winged liner technique, then why not try it in a crisp shade of pastel blue? Take a page from Brewer's book and pair it with soft pink blush to warm up your complexion.

The next time you break out your favourite red lipstick, skip the eyeliner, add some strategic highlights along your cheekbones, under your brows, and at the inner corners of your eyes, and forget your hair-tie at home (although, you may need a few bobby pins hidden behind your ears to keep your hair secured and any fuzzies in place).
