Maddie Ziegler's Best Beauty Looks, in Photos

Proof That Maddie Ziegler Is the Beauty Inspiration I Need Right Now

Maddie Ziegler has shortly gone from reality TV star to one of the most important teenagers in Hollywood (no, really, Time magazine named her one of the most influential teens three years in a row). Forget triple threat, Ziegler dances, acts, does voiceover, models, and writes — the Pennsylvania native's memoir The Maddie Diaries made the New York Times Best Sellers list — all while racking up 13 million Instagram followers in the process. And we're only going to see more of her: the 16-year-old was recently cast as a member of the Jets in Steven Spielberg's upcoming remake of West Side Story.

As her fame has grown, so has her tendency to try unexpected makeup and hair looks. A few minutes scrolling through makeup artist Tonya Brewer's Instagram feed (who works regularly with Ziegler) and you'll find a treasure trove of bright, colourful makeup ideas that are also surprisingly wearable.

Ziegler is no stranger to bold beauty looks. As a dancer on the competition circuit, she's played with her hair and makeup for her performances from a very young age; while her collaboration with Sia has allowed the star to go wild with bold, blunt wigs and rainbow-coloured face paint. Her makeup and hair looks that we rounded up below, however, aren't meant for the stage or for an interpretive dance, but rather to serve as inspiration so you can seriously jazz up your beauty routine this summer.

The simple, black satin band does two things: it dresses up a basic high ponytail and adds even more height in the process.

Anyone who's ever said orange eye shadow isn't wearable hasn't see what Brewer's magic hands have created on Ziegler here. Straight on, it looks like a halo of traffic-cone orange around her eyes. Scroll right and you'll see it's really opaque neon liner that's been traced along her lower lashes and the outer half of her top lashes, then buffed up onto her lids creating a very faint wash. The varying levels of dimensions paired with loads of black mascara are the secrets to pulling off this tricky hue.

Sweet pastels take on an edge when dotted artfully around the eyes. To recreate the "pastel fantasy," as Brewer described it, try Dior's On Stage Liners (£27).

Can't draw on cat eyes to save your life? These disjointed wings are the perfect way to get the same eye-elongating effects minus the bottle of makeup remover and approximately 438 cotton buds. Bonus points for matching them to your favourite shirt.

Now, if you're someone who's mastered your winged liner technique, then why not try it in a crisp shade of pastel blue? Take a page from Brewer's book and pair it with soft pink blush to warm up your complexion.

The next time you break out your favourite red lipstick, skip the eyeliner, add some strategic highlights along your cheekbones, under your brows, and at the inner corners of your eyes, and forget your hair-tie at home (although, you may need a few bobby pins hidden behind your ears to keep your hair secured and any fuzzies in place).

Ziegler goes back to her dancing roots with an elegant chignon that's super-shiny and super-sleek (try and find a hair out of place, we dare you).

Switch things up and put all the focus on your bottom lashes. And do it in a pretty shade of lilac while you're at it.

What makes this different from your typical cat eye is that, instead of extending out from the top lashes and angling upwards towards the brows, the wings jut straight out from along the bottom lash lines, giving Ziegler's makeup a regal, Cleopatra-like vibe.

Bows are one of our favourite hair accessories of the year and Ziegler nails the trend perfectly with her hair curled in an S-wave pattern and tied up into a sweet half-up ponytail.

Ziegler doesn't have to make a huge beauty statement to still get us inspired. Here, she keeps things subtle with bronzy eye makeup and some seriously enviable beachy waves that equal parts tousled and polished.

Here's another example of disjointed wings – this time filled in and done in a fiery crimson shade. Your best bet is to try creating the look with red eye liner pencil (like the MAC Chromographic Pencil in Basic Red, £15) instead of shadow to help keep lines precise and pigment in place.

A veil of twinkly soft bronze shadow all around the eyes — paired with a touch of black liner and false lash strips to define the eyes — is a great way to add a bit of drama without a whole lot of product.

The chunkiness of the braid, the softness of the silhouette, the randomness of the wildflowers — this hairstyle has it all in our books. Wear it with a floaty sundress or with a basic tee, like Ziegler does here.

Justine Marjan, the hairstylist and genius behind those "word" barrettes the Internet is obsessed with, is also the mastermind behind this upside-down braided bun. Unfortunately, you may need to phone a friend to get the style to look as sleek and neat as this.
