Meet Charles Worthington

Meet Charles Worthington, Hairdresser Extraordinaire!

A few of weeks ago, I got to meet the great hairdresser to the stars, Charles Worthington face to face as he (as his mega-brand) were the official hair partners for the 2010 Orange BAFTA Awards. Not only was he kind and handsome, but he was also incredibly interesting.

Whilst he set out in school to become an architect, he was slowly swayed into the glamorous world of hairdressing where he describes the parallels between the two industries as, "balancing hair with faces to create just the right structure."

It's been 20 years since he opened his first salon in London. From there, he expanded to New York City (which has since closed), however, there have been two more fabulous salon openings in London thereafter. He also launched his first range of products 15 years ago, and prides himself on his dedication and hands-on approach to packaging and formulation.

  • What's your favourite product that you've created? It's a tie between Front Row Rough and Tousled Salt Spray (it creates a gritty, funky base for hair) and Front Row Refresh and Revive Dry Shampoo (for volume and texture).
  • What do you like most about your job? I travel all of the time which I love. I'm also the resident hairdresser for "This Morning" which is a lot of fun. I love doing makeovers so I can assess how to transform people. It's rewarding to make someone feel good.
  • You've worked on some A-Listers for very big events. Let's see, there's Sharon Stone, Goldie Hawn and Joely Richardson to name a few. Do you still get nervous creating hairstyles for celebrities? It's not so much that I get nervous, as it is that I just want to do a perfect job for them. Also, I've learnt that there is a need to remain professional. It's important to treat celebrities like regular people.
  • Can you tell me more about Dream Hair? Dream Hair will be relaunching this month and it includes seven products. It first launched 10 years ago, but has been reformulated. Each of the products sell for £5.49. We've done line pricing so that you don't have to choose a product based on price, rather you can base your decision on which product you need most for your hair type/style.
