Backstage Beauty: Desert-Inspired Makeup at PPQ Spring 2011

Despite the dreadful 45 minute delay, FabSugarUK braved the wait at the PPQ Spring 2011 Show to report on the sexy Summertime fashion, whilst I met with head makeup artist Rachel Wood who gave me all of the dirty details on this desert island beauty look that she created using Benefit products. Rachel said,

We were going for a Moroccan, desert-like feel so the colours used were very bronze-y and clean. Skin was slightly tanned with the use of St. Tropez products, and was also matte with sharp brows, no sparkle and a lip that looked like the models have just eaten a strawberry"

  • Face: Begin with a giant Buffer Brush, and blend a matte powder all over the skin to even out the tone and any blotches created by the spray tan.
  • Cheeks: Next, apply Hoola Bronzing Powder on the temples and cheekbones to warm up the skin. Skip colour on the rest of the cheeks.
  • Eyes: When you're finished, dot a brightening concealer such as Erase Paste on the inner and outer corners of the eyes to create an 'awake' look. Curl lashes and apply three to four coats of Bad Gal Mascara to create a doll-like effect. Then, use Bad Gal Liner for definition. Begin along the upper lash line and draw towards the outer corners of the eyes and halfway on the lower line. Tweeze brows and fill them in with Brow-Zings tapering at the ends. Add a touch of highlighter underneath the brows to emphasise a clean look.
  • Lips: Lastly, dab a mixture of Posietint, Benetint and Benetint Balm together, and use your finger to apply it to the middle of your lips and pat outwards for a stain-style.
