5 Ways to Make Your NYE Hairstyle Last All Night Long

New Year's Eve might have you coming home in the early morning hours with your hair looking like a droopy — and maybe even sticky — mess. If you want your hairstyle to last as long as your late-night escapades, there are a few things you can do.

Ahead are some tips from our favourite hair pros on how to make your look last through any shindig you have coming up.

Remember to Prime

"Applying the right foundation is very important. The proper products ensure hold, shine, and longevity for any style," said hairstylist Sarah Lund. Spritzing on a priming lotion to damp hair does everything she said and also smooths frizz. Lund loves using the Kevin Murphy Anti-Gravity Spray ($31). (Full disclosure: she's a rep for the brand.)

Bring Backup

"Bring a stash of pins and a mini hairspray for any loose hairs and midnight touch-ups," said Lund. Our favourites? The Bachca Paris Bobby Pin Set ($7).

Wear It Up

"Consider wearing your hair up," said Lund. "There are so many ways to wear a low ponytail — either smooth and sleek or soft and textured — or you can even add a sparkly clip and a velvet bow for extra glam." We like this Chloe and Isabel Metal Pony Piece ($17).

Skip the Wash

"Don't wash your hair," said editorial hairstylist Chuck Bass. "Second-day hair lasts better." That's because second-day hair, with its oils and grit, gives better grip to a style.

Keep Your Hands Off

To prevent your look from falling flat, Bass suggested you avoid touching your hair with your hands — the oils and moisture on them can break down the style.
