Salon Price Transparency

Why 1 Salon Believes Transparency About Pricing For Clients Is So Important

Salon Price Transparency

Ever wanted to get a hair colour or experiment with a new hairstyle but been turned off by the fact you don't know exactly how much the end result is going to cost? With all the added extras and unexpected issues that may arise during the colour process, you can end up with an eye-watering bill. Not Another Salon owner Sophia Hilton thinks price transparency is crucial to not only the client paying but to ensure the hairdresser is confident that the client is happy with the service and pricing.

Not Another Salon, based in London, started posting pricing breakdowns on Instagram to give clients full transparency on the hair transformation process and give people a better understanding of how much you'd expect to pay for complicated colour changed. Hilton explained to POPSUGAR that the reasoning behind bill breakdowns was because she found "when a client got a quote from us while sitting in the chair, they were really shocked on how long it would take and how much it would cost. It seemed that because these bills are not advertised, there was a huge lack of knowledge with the public, which was leading to clients feeling really disappointed and hairdressers really frustrated that the clients didn't understand."

Hilton noticed that "price on request" was commonplace for big transformations seen on Instagram, noting that although every bill will be slightly different for each client's needs, at least you can "gage a sort of time and price you're looking at so you're not whacked with a scary bill you didn't expect." However, she says it's not all about the price. She also wants to educate clients on the science behind hair colour and why they can't always have want they want overnight. Hilton said videos online often make the impossible look possible, which it often isn't. One of the many reasons a client might find themselves facing a bigger than expected bill is that they're taking up an entire day of a hairdresser's time where they might have otherwise fit in 7/8 other clients in that time. Being totally transparent manages client expectations, makes colourists lives much easier, and saves a hefty unexpected bill. Avoiding an unexpected bill is always something we can jump on board with. Take a look at some of Not Another Salon's price transparency breakdowns.
