I'm always interested to meet a bonafide beauty junkie, and they don't come any more devoted than In Style's beauty writer Alice Ripman. Alice quite literally lives and breathes beauty. She thrives on getting the hottest new products in to the magazine and has a serious beauty shopping habit.
What better person then, to catch with about Spring beauty trends? I grabbed five minutes with Alice this week. To find out what she said, just read more.
What are your top five beauty products launching this Spring? Jo Malone has teamed with posh paint company Farrow & Ball to create some divine candles. I’m going to buy all five! I love D&G's rose collection lipsticks, they smell amazing and are great for taking your daytime look to cocktail hour. OPI's Alice in Wonderland nail lacquer in 'Absolutely Alice' is beautiful with lovely glittery flecks and Origins' Brighter by Nature brightening peel pads. These genius pads are gentle enough to take on my summer holidays but tough enough to send lack-lustre skin packing.
Are there any exciting new brands or trends emerging in beauty that you are excited about? I'm loving the pastel nail trend in vogue at the moment as it really sets off massive gold rings, one of my guilty pleasures! My favourites are Revlon's Minted and Essie's Lilacism. Fragrances have definitely been getting darker with rich notes of oud, amber and musk and it seems this trend will continue for 2010. The Roja Dove Haute Perfumery in Harrods is the go-to place for fragrances like these.
How would you describe your own personal beauty ethos? I’m a self-confessed high-maintenance beauty girl. I don’t have a preference over luxe, high-street, natural or organic. I will try it all and am very loyal to what I like. My make-up bag includes everything from Sisley's La Nuit £435 face cream to Jemma Kidd's cream blush. I’d spend every day in a spa/salon if I could! Neville Hair and Beauty on Pont Street is on my speed dial.
What are your top three desert island beauty products? Kerastase Soleil Haircare, definitely. My hair is long and coloured and needs a surge of moisture almost everyday. I also love MAC’s brow gel – I’m brow obsessed and keep hairs in place with this. Finally, Bobbi Brown’s cream lipstick in retro pink – I apply this like lipbalm and it create a flake-free, slightly pinky pout.
