Aside from foundation, sunscreen ranks pretty high up on the list of things that women of colour are forever struggling to find [4]. It either casts a grey tint on skin, makes your face look like it's covered in chalk, or is filled with chemicals that even if it blends in, no one wants to put on their skin. Thanks to a discovery by 16-year-old influencer Tiara Willis, brown skin can get the coverage it needs [5] just in time for summer. The blogger behind the @MakeupforWOC handle [6] on Twitter shared a pic of a sunscreen called Black Girl Sunscreen [7], which she gives a 10 out of 10 rating.
Willis wrote in her post that she tried the sunscreen, and it doesn't leave that weird grey cast that many other formulas do. She also thinks that it's not too oily, which is a win for acneic skin. The brand itself boasts an oxybenzone and paraben-free formula that dries to a clear finish. It's also made with natural ingredients like carrot seed oil, jojoba oil, almond oil, avocado, and shea butter. So it will keep skin moisturised while it protects.
