The First Victoria Beckham Beauty Products Are Inspired by the Designer’s Signature Smoky Eyes

16/09/2019 - 05:40 PM

I still own the first eye shadow that Victoria Beckham [1] ever launched. It was part of her debut collection with Estée Lauder in 2016, and it's the best damn bronze powder shadow I've ever put on my lids (I'm using present tense because, yes, I still use it). It's pigmented and blendable, it's both metallic and glittery, and it's the main reason I've been waiting for the launch of Victoria Beckham [2] Beauty with the same levels of excitement and impatience as a 5-year-old waiting for Christmas Day. And trust that I wasn't the only one freaking out over pieces from the fashion designer's first foray into beauty. Her debut collection sold out twice in the UK, and in the US, her Morning Aura illuminating creme and Aura Gloss had beauty-lovers losing their minds. Well, the wait is over because Victoria Beckham Beauty is finally here — and we have all the details.

For her first launch, she gave me what I really, really want(ed). Introducing the Victoria's Smoky Eye Wardrobe, an 11-piece selection of shadows and liners, all inspired by Beckham's all-time favourite makeup look: smoky eyes. There are three different products in the collection: the Smoky Eye Brick (an eye-shadow palette with four different-coloured powder shadows pressed into one sleek brass pan, available in four shades), the Lid Lustre (a high-shine, pearlescent cream shadow that's infused with actual crystals [3], available in four shades), and the Satin Kajal Liner (a highly pigmented, long-wearing eyeliner pencil, available in three shades).

Perhaps more important than the products, however, is the message and mission behind them. With this line, Beckham wanted to create products that she herself wanted in her makeup bag: high-quality and high performing, cleanly formulated (this was key), cruelty-free, and sustainably packaged. A majority of the products are also vegan friendly, save for two of the shadow palettes (Tweed and Signature) and one shade of the liner (Bordeaux). "Victoria Beckham Beauty is #NotPerfect but its mission is to set higher standards in beauty and to be better every day," stated the press release for the launch. To achieve all this, Beckham teamed up with Sarah Creal, the former head of global partnerships at Estée Lauder and the person who Beckham worked with on her collaboration with the brand. Creal is now the CEO and cofounder of Victoria Beckham Beauty.

As for the packaging, it should be no surprise at all that it's incredibly luxurious, the compacts as sleek and sophisticated as the silhouettes Beckham sends down the runway season after season. But the designer was hyperaware of adding to the ever-growing amount of waste left behind by the beauty industry. The products in the line are made up of as little plastic as possible, while the secondary packaging is created using 100 percent postconsumer waste (which you wouldn't be able to tell because the boxes are so chic). But Beckham didn't stop there. The shipping materials are either recyclable or biodegradable, and each order is delivered in a reusable canvas pouch.

The Victoria Beckham Beauty launches on 14 Sept. 2019 exclusively on VictoriaBeckhamBeauty.com [4] and for a limited time at the Victoria Beckham Dover Street store. Keep reading for your first look at the Victoria's Smoky Eye Collection.

Victoria Beckham Beauty Smoky Eye Brick in Tweed

The colour combinations in the Smoky Eye Brick [5] (£48) are inspired by Beckham's signature smoky eye looks over the years. Each palette includes four shades, all pressed into one compact to limit the amount of packaging needed. Completely plastic free, the palette is available in four different colours: Signature (Beckham's favourite shades for daytime smoky eyes), Tuxedo (charcoal hues to create cool-toned smoky eyes), Tweed (a selection of warm shades like terracotta and deep plum), and Royal (rich navy hues).

Victoria Beckham Beauty Lid Lustre in Mink

The Lid Lustre [13] (£28) are pearlescent cream shadows that can either be worn on their own, or layered over a powder shadow for an extra layer of dimension and shine. The formula comes in four hues, each of them infused with real crystals (Beckham is a big fan of surrounding herself with healing gemstones). There's Onyx (deep black with silver pearl, infused with black obsidian), Blonde (a pale champagne hue with yellow-gold pearl, infused with citrine), Mink (a taupe brown with gold and silver pearl, infused with tiger's eye), and Midnight (a navy blue with silver pearl, infused with amethyst).
