Beauty adventurers are no strangers to finding hair inspiration in unique places. We've seen colourful takes on denim jeans, Star Wars, and outer space. But some of the most interesting (and gorgeous!) trends have been created using delectable treats as inspiration. Stylists have been modelling highlights after chocolate chip cookies, creating streaks to emulate macarons, and now watermelon is having a moment in hair.
The punchy pink and green hues of the summertime fruit are being used to create a cascading spectrum of colour on various women. The style either starts with a hint of bright pink at the roots that fades into a vivid shade of green or vice versa — like a watermelon.
While the tints are especially luminescent on blonde- and platinum-coloured hair, brunettes can get in on the trend by using a balayage or oil-slick technique with the corresponding hues. We strongly recommend consulting your colourist to transform your locks watermelon style, but you can still experiment with the look at home using semipermanent hair dye in deep green and vibrant pink pigments. Read on to see more shots of the fruit-inspired trend.
