Beauty editors, makeup artists and, it turns out, even Kardashians, have been known to swear by drugstore mascara. We can relate; it's hard to justify dropping more than $10 on a product with such a short shelf life. (Mascara should be replaced every three months.) Luckily, you need not look further than your local drugstore aisle to find some amazing mascaras [1]. Even Kim Kardashian [2], who once made $14 million in three hours [3] (and thus has plenty of coin to drop on lash care), swears by a $6 mascara.
In a recent post on her app [4], Kim copped to being "obsessed" with the L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Mascara in Carbon Black [5] ($6). "I've been using this product for years!" she wrote. "The colour is the perfect shade of black and it really lifts and separates each lash."
For Kim, a big pro of this mascara is its versatility. As she wrote, "It's perfect for an everyday look, or you can layer on multiple coats for a more dramatic effect." Even her makeup artist and newest collaborator Mario Dedivanovic [7] loves it, too.
We dig this drugstore mascara because it provides an intense, jet-black pigment without leaving a clumpy, spidery effect on lashes. It also has a thin wand, which makes it super easy to swipe on — with a little practice, you can even apply it without a mirror. We'll take 20, please.
