I Tried Every Product In Halsey's About-Face Line, and This 1 Product Was My Favourite

If you had eyes in my Slack group chats then you would know our editors are obsessed with Halsey's new makeup collection About-Face [1]. Even after the saturated year of new celebrity beauty brands [2] we would be fatigued with star-studded launches [3], but that couldn't be farther from the truth — especially with About-Face.

From the gleaming highlighters to the long-lasting liquid lipsticks [4], all of the About-Face [5] products are up to snuff, but having swatched and experimented with them at length since the box of goodies arrived at my door, I can confidently claim that one product stands out above the rest. If you're going to buy one thing from Halsey's makeup collection and one thing only, make it the Matte Fluid Eye Paint [6] ($24). I'll tell you why.

The eye paints come in six shades, Lost Unfound, a deep navy blue; Dionysus, a vibrant pink; Cloned, a moody terracotta; White Noise, a bright, crisp white; Smell Before Rain, a pale neutral beige; and Smoke Signal, a forest green. All of the shades have a thick consistency and are pigmented more like actual paint than makeup. They come in a tube with a doe-foot applicator that you can wield like an artist and use to paint your face in any which way you want.

I wish I was brave enough to wear the navy blue or forest green shades but alas, I'm not. My favourite two colours from the six available are Cloned, the red-brown terracotta, and Smell Before Rain, the light beige, because they make a statement while still being neutral. I could see myself wearing the light beige colour every day but the terracotta shade called Cloned is perfect for the sultry kind of makeup look you'd wear on date night — or a regular Thursday, in my case, for this experiment.

I used the doe-foot applicator to dab the pigment onto my eyelids, then blended it out with a flat eyeshadow brush and repeated those steps until I got the result I wanted. Despite being the most pigmented liquid eyeshadow formula that I have ever used, it still blends beautifully and doesn't get stuck like some. I finished by using a fluffy eyeshadow brush to blend out my crease. (You can also use an angled eyeliner brush to apply the eye paints as a liner if you're feeling exceptionally daring.)

The About-Face Matte Fluid Eye Paint [7] ($24) is worth every penny and will without a doubt make a regular appearance in my makeup routine.
